Premiership Rugby is delighted to confirm that the Harlequins vs
Bristol Bears match set a new TV audience record with more than
one million people turning into the game on ITV and BT Sport.

907,000 on ITV and 141,000 on BT Sport surely shows the price
you pay for going with pay per view!

Last time I saw figures, a few years ago, BT were getting about
300-350,000 on a normal match day, which was about 100,000 less
than Sky had been getting.

I would guess that some BT subscibers may have been tuning in on
ITV if they were away at family get-togethers & the like.

Oh I'm sure. There's plenty that moan about the BT commentary
team, too!

I seem to remember that a few years ago there were more people
at the Big Stoop than watching on TV.

1 million watching and an absolutely terrible game, wonder how
many will want to watch another after that.

Wonder how many would have been watching if it were Bears v
Barff or Glaws v Chiefs?
Are we the draw or just the fact it's on over Twixmas?

There's a lot of people just like to watch rugby on TV. They
aren't necessarily people who come to a game usually. Look at
how we can get 80K come to the big game. But there is a demand
there.

The ITV figures may have been partly down to rarity value. Oh,
and Cadan Murley.
