The way rugby is administered never fails to surprise does it. I
can't believe that is even a thing. I'm not saying a new coach
should make wholesale changes but imposing limits on what they
can change is just not right.

The original rule of just changing 5/7 players in the squad in
January was agreed by PRL/RFU several years ago but understood
that agreement had been reached with all concerned to waive this
rule for Borthwick this year. Anyway with injuries it may not
be required, I think Dombrandt was in the squad but on injured
list at the beginning of the season.

When you say "agreed by PRL/RFU" can I just clarify that it was
demanded by the club's through PRL and the RFU had to accept it
or probably come up with a load more cash. There is no way the
RFU, or any other national union, would voluntarily handicap
       themselves like that.

The big question is who would you swap out? The players in the
last squad aren't bad players just playing to an unrealistic
       game plan.
Other than the Vunipolae and Johnny May no one is screaming to
be dropped, although I'd personally add Jonny Hill to that list
and there are much better players in their positions.
He only has a few weeks before Scotland so a Ford/Farrell access
may well be more appealing to Borthwick as you don't need to
break them in....that's the key bit for me, settle on a 10/12/13
that works with players in their natural positions.

       Dombrandt for BV
Lawes back in for Hill's spot.
       OHC for May
Joe or the chap from Gloucester in place of Mako
       Ollie Lawrence for Porter
Earl for Simmonds (Willis retained in squad covering 8) I get
he's as likeable as I am, but can't deny he is in great form.

I really want to see whether NEv can get Dommers to bring his
Quins game to England. Alex has always looked ill at ease in an
England shirt, as if he's trying too hard to play to a game
plan, when really they should be encouraging him to play his
       natural game.

Lawes hasn't been a primary second row in years. He's a long
term 6 who can play lock in a pinch. Hill's up against guys like
       Ribbans.

I think it's time to move on from Ford + Farrell / Smith +
Farrell at 10 and 12. We need to play an actual inside centre
in their usual position regardless of who is playing 10.
Whether that's Dan Kelly, Manu or Dingwall. If whoever you pick
at 12 is more of a "runner" than a "basher", then you've got
Manu or Lawrence who can play 13 and provide heavier carrying.
OHC on the wing is even an option if you need a bit more heft in
       the backs.
I'd like to think Nev will lean on his principle of getting his
10 on the ball more - this has worked for Marcus where they
worked on him having two involvements in each phase of play,
hopefully that means you don't need a second 10 wider out to
       share the distribution.
I think there are plenty of decent forwards to pick from - it's
more about the structure and cohesion for them and making sure
they are prepared for the levels of physicality Ireland and
France will bring. Winning the ruck-speed battle will basically
       determine who wins most games.

But Quins (like most teams) do have a second 10 on the pitch.
Whether that’s Green or (in his absence) Allen, that’s exactly
the model your first choice XV has.
If we’re ditching Farrell at 12 (possibly tk love to 10) and
having Steward at 15, you’re probably talking about Slade at 13
then a basher at 12 (or vice versa).

I don't think Green plays like a second 10 at all. We play with
Marcus at 10 and a big bloke at 12 - our fullback is usually a
       counter attacking runner.
