Thats kind of what I meant when I said no one bats an eyelid
(but not explained that well). A few grunts and then we carry
on. This seems to be running with everyone getting involved.

I think the media has certainly hyped it up a lot which isn’t
helping Joe, but for what it’s worth, I think “abuse” in a game
is subjective. Personally as players, I doubt anyone playing is
going to be upset being called a see you next Tuesday etc, or
anything similar, so it’s just accepted and things go on. If you
started chucking in the mix comments about family members, then
it can become sensitive, so it tips the balance a bit (in my
opinion) from acceptable banter to the category of “that’s just
called for” as sledging etc is one thing but personal attacks on
people not there to defend themselves can invoke a reaction
which wouldn’t of probably happened otherwise.
We should find out today how the RFU view the incident. I’d love
to see Karl’s report on it considering he was close to the
exchange, certainly a lot closer than some of the Bristol
players who reacted after it was said.

There won't be anything interesting in it because he didn't do
anything. If he reports Joe as being offensively abusive he's
just calling himself out for not dealing with it

This is partly what I was getting at, as I’m very surprised he
didn’t hear anything (if he says that’s the case) considering
where he was. If he heard it, Marler should have been probably
carded, but now with a lack of action he’s opened himself up to
showing some loyalties to old comrades. Interesting day ahead!

There's also the possibility this was in response to some
action/comment Joe had to endure? I'm not condoning it, but a
sportsman who thrives on adrenalin is not going to be cool as a
cucumber whatever the regulations if provoked. This is exactly
the kind of thing needs examining later hearing from all
concerned and cannot be easily dealt with on the pitch. Let's
see if a) there's a citing and b) what the citing hearing
discovers.

Not as bad as calling them a Sarries fan though.

I may be wrong, but I thought that a player can only be cited
for what would be a red card offence? Is abuse a red card
offence?

Law 9.12 covers both verbal and physical abuse and you can
definitely be red-carded for physical abuse. I can't see any
card guidelines on the WR site other than the Principle: A
player who commits foul play must either be cautioned or
temporarily suspended or sent off.

I was listening on Reflink. Dickson clearly said that he hadn't
heard the alleged remark, and that if it was heard clearly on
comms it could potentially be looked at later (after the game).
I noticed that Marler had the hump early on (after the first
Bristol line-out) when Bristol had said it would be a 5 man
line-out, but they actually had 6 in. He talked to Dickson at
the next break in play to complain "They deliberately lied to
us!"

Heenhans mother is in hospital so that probably explains a lot
of the reaction, based on Joes “ Previous”
If it does go to the panel I don’t expect we will see him for
