Harlequins vs Bristol
DIR By: Captquin
Date: December 26, 2022, 6:11 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Harlequins’ Coaching team has named the matchday squad to host
Bristol Bears at The Twickenham Stoop tomorrow afternoon. Live
on BT Sport and ITV, 16:15 kick-off.
Tomorrow's fixture marks a spectacular day of entertainment in
TW2 as a double header event for both the Club's Men's and
Women's teams as they host Bristol Bears.
A front trio of Joe Marler, Jack Walker and Wilco Louw are
reunited as the former duo return from injury this week, backed
up in the engine room by George Hammond and Irne Herbst.
The backrow sees Archie White return to the starting line-up at
blindside flanker in place of the injured Jack Kenningham,
joining Will Evans and Alex Dombrandt at the back of the scrum.
The backline remains unchanged, with Danny Care and Tommy Allan
looking to control proceedings from the halfback department in
what is set to be a thrilling encounter between two attacking
sides in South West London.
Commenting, Head Coach Tabai Matson said: “You might get sick of
me saying it, but this game against Bristol in particular is
really important. You get a result and we have the chance to
create a bit of space between ourselves and the teams in fifth
and sixth. In the larger scheme of things, this would be a
really important victory.
"We’ve discussed that with the senior players and they’re fired
up to get back into the Premiership. Being at home in front of a
sold-out Stoop, we want to deliver a good performance."

I’d personally have Lawday over White as I think he’s just a
better player, but if roles were reversed I think Lawday would
have more of an impact as a sub so it’s probably the right call.
Over than that no grumbles. Hoping we see a slicker/smarter
approach as whilst their position reflects a struggling team,
Bristol have some very good match winners.

Shame that there is no Kenningham or Lamb. Our bench is much
weaker which leaves me puzzed why we didn't try and get more of
the Worcester/Wasps forward contingent when they were
available...
Anyway still think we will win this but come the end of the
season the likes of a Stooke/Barbeary/Neild type player could
have come very handy...
If it were me you would have signed one of those players on a
two year deal with a much bigger 2nd year amount than 1st to fit
them into the cap for this season and then let J Chis go to
accomodate..
That is my Boxing day two cents. COYQ

Quins v Bristol is always an entertaining game. Odds on for
another high scoring match.
Think we'll have the edge in the scrum which, coupled with home
advantage, will hopefully see us through.
Bristol have improved compared to their early season form.
Expecting a tough game.

Looking at what Bristol have at their disposal there is no way
they should be at the foot of the league... especially when you
look at who will come back after injury.
I am expecting us to shade it, but it is not likely to be a high
scoring game (with the likelihood of rain during the game).
I am looking forward to the women's game (ko 1.30pm). Great news
that we signed Abbie Dow from Wasps as a Jess Breach
replacement. But, I wish Heather Cowell would play for us... she
is a high quality winger... no wonder she plays for England 7's.

Sorry if this comes out weird, doing it on my phone:
2 changes to the BristolBears squad 🔁
⬅️ Ellis Genge will miss today’s game to attend
the birth of his second child 👶
⬅️ Callum Sheedy (unwell) 🤒
➡️ Yann Thomas starts with @JakeChunkz on bench
➡️ @OConorPiers comes into the squad at no.22

Losing Genge is a big blow for Bristol. I thought we have the
edge in the scrum before this, but expecting it to be an area of
strength for us now
