Paywall. Don’t forget that only two clubs had half of this debt.

Harlequins
One club that is concerning is Harlequins. They borrowed £48m in
FY21, maybe through £50m on the back of FY22. If you look at
operating profit per employee, they are paying £60,000 per
employee and going backwards. It's the structure of the business
– big property investments, borrowings.

Government backed covid loans in that time period. Shoddy
reporting.

There appears to be some very careful selection of data, counter
intuitive descriptions and avoidance of mentioning certain
environmental realities to get to the position described in the
article. Maybe it’s just the usual shoddy journalism, but it
feels rather like someone started with an answer (NFL style
franchises) and built a case to support it.

There is going to be quite a bit of kite flying before the new
low form agreement.

as i have said in the past, do these figures relate to
Harlequins rugby or all the companies associated with goings on
at the Stoop. If its the former not wort the paper its written
on.

Perhaps someone could clarify something- it says that CVC take
27% of club’s revenues. I assume this relates to TV revenue only
and the clubs match day revenue/sponsorship etc is kept by them
in its entirety?

I thought they took 27% of everything as revenue and profits
were going to increase.

All Clubs have this. Did we borrow for North Village
improvement? Certainly the loss of Big Game on 27 December is a
disaster it will be much less in March.
