Very disappointing but not surprised in the slightest - he’s a
top quality international flyhalf who really should be starting
every week somewhere, and I’d bet we’re paying him some serious
coin for him to give up a year of international duty to play
       here as 2nd choice.
Still has a huge part to play this season and I’ll be savouring
       those performances

now he’s back in the Italy squad he’s not the ideal back up now
he’s away in both the autumn and six nations. By my reckoning
Benson has one more year at Cambridge Uni.

Can I be a trouble maker and say Marcus Smith was the best Quins
back up fly half we ever had? He was after all back up to
Demetri Catrakilis and stepped up when he got injured.

Just a little bit of left field thinking here...
I seem to recall that Tyrone was originally listed as a
fly-half. The fact that he's a truly brilliant full-back is
great for us. But now we have seen there's quality cover there,
maybe Tyrone will be played there. The one issue would be
kicking for posts; however, I think teams place too much
emphasis on this being the fly'half's responsibility. The
Springboks showed the differece it can make to the 10's game
when you take this pressure off of them.

It wouldn't surprise me if Green could also cover scrum half. I
suspect that he is one of those naturally gifted players who
could play anywhere from 9 to 15 with the exception of 12

I just realised I completely misread that post. ☹️

Id be surprised if we did not sign a replacement. Smith will
miss games due to England involvement (hopefully). That would
leave us with Edwards/Benson and Slevin (who is more of a FB).
Rather keep Andre at 12 (he has been mentioned as a in game
option if injuries happen). We were apparently in the hunt for
Atkinson before he joined Tigers, so I expect someone will come
       in who can play there.

There’s a case to be made - but I think it’s fair to say that
Marcus’s stint as a backup was arguably less than one game. He
went in as the backup and emerged as the de facto starter, and
       the rest is Quins history.
He’s got a couple of rivals for the quick transition from backup
to starter cup in George Lowe and Jack Kenningham.

The timing was definitely a poor show. The signing up with a
different team is really no surprise. We've been lucky to have a
player of his calibre as the backup. No one else (other than
       Sarries possibly) can afford that.

Measuring calibre is of course completely subjective but based
on who wouldn’t be out place as the first option elsewhere,
Burns at Leicester, MacGinty at Bristol and (dare I say it) RdP
       at Sale aren’t bad back-up 10s.
10 is such a crucial position that any club who is likely to
lose their main option to test call-ups has probably got a
       pretty good back up.
