I don't really care how players speak about him. Look at the
results and look at how the team plays, and look at whether
there has been any progress over the last few years. And that's
not even taking into account the selections and coaching
merry-go-round.

It's a weird choice. It's both conservative (Borthwick is a dour
coach, a fair few ties to Jones, is English which apparently
seems to be really important to the RFU suddenly) and a gamble
(Borthwick's had one good season and is struggling in this one,
has very little experience for the top job anywhere).
Robertson was the exciting choice and one that I think would
suit the player base available to England.

It does seem a weird time to go for Borthwick when Tigers aren't
doing that well. Would rather see an interim coach with long
term appointment to be dealt with after RWC

He’s really had no time at all in a top job and is clearly an
RFU bed fellow. Already getting Lancaster vibes for how England
will be, but hopefully I am wrong.

Parachuting Borthwick in with little experience (although some
success) seems awfully like when they did much the same with
Martin Johnson. Ideally you want a coach with proven experience
at International level, and if you can't get that with proven
experience and success at club level.
