In a return of Gallagher Premiership ‘Friday Night Lights’ at
The Stoop for the first time this season, Harlequins welcome
back internationals Tommy Allan and Andre Esterhuizen to the
starting line-up this week to face Gloucester Rugby.
Esterhuizen is reunited with centre partner Joe Marchant, while
Allan links back up with the talismanic Danny Care in the
halfback department.
Nick David returns to start at fullback having completed his
World Rugby Coaching Intervention Programme (CIP) to become
available for this fixture, paired in the back three by wings
Cadan Murley and Josh Bassett.
There are three changes to the forward pack from the team that
claimed a historic 73-29 victory over the Barbarians seven days
ago. Hooker Jack Walker starts his first game since returning
from injury, while prop Joe Marler moves into the starting
line-up after scoring from his appearance as an Impact Player
against the Baabaas.
A final change to the pack sees lock Dino Lamb start alongside
Irne Herbst in the engine room.
Commenting, Attack and Backs Coach Nick Evans said: “We’re all
excited to get back into league action under some Friday Night
Lights. For a number of reasons, we haven’t fired on all
cylinders yet this season.
“In all parts of our game we’ve had fleeting moments, we’ve
attacked and defended well in some areas but we’re still looking
for that complete performance. It’s something over this last
period that we’ve really dug in to; around what that looks like
and how we can replicate it this week.
“I expect a reaction from Gloucester following their defeat to
Newcastle. We’ve spoken about that and about how they’ll be
hurting from that result. We expect they’ll bring the Gloucester
way of playing to us and there will be a huge set-piece focus
around what they do. They have a good kicking game too.
“It’s something we’re looking forward to. That’s the
Premiership, each week is a different challenge. Each time
you’re preparing for a different defence or a different type of
attack, which is exciting. So it’s certainly a challenge this
week that we’re looking forward to.”

Great team - if all play to potential, Glos will struggle to
match that line up.

We're starting to get close a full-strength team again. Thought
Lawday might make the backrow.
I think we're only really missing Green, Lynagh, Lewies, Smith
(back next week), Collier and Chisholm now who you might expect
to see in the first choice 23.

Looks a strong team. I would have been tempted to start Edwards
over Allan but I can understand the reasoning behind starting
Allan. Hopefully the coaches are giving Lawday another week of
training before getting him back involved in the match day
squad. The idea of White going up against the Sharks and
Racing’s forwards does not give me confidence.

Would have preferred Taulani to be a bench option if he’s near
fitness as he surely would make more impact than White.
White is the sort of player that needs to start, or not at all,
as he never has had that “make a difference” type spark.

Strong team. But Glos are also strong and with most of their
internationals back. Could be a difficult evening, but I back
Quins to win by 7.

Stong line-ups for both teams - should be a tough, close game.
Rees-Zammit vs Murley would be worth the entry price but looks
like they're on opposite wings. Front rows are very tasty too.
If we can stop them from getting too far out in front early then
we should have enough to see that lot off...

Their lineout and maul are very dangerous. We're really going to
have to be on our guard there....
