Worst year of results since 2008, 6 nations starts against
Scotland - who we’ve only beaten once in the past five meetings.
Jones and his self-justification is a very bad joke and it’s
just long past being funny.

And based on that quote the answer is quite possibly yes. Of
course it is a difficult situation. You only have to hear how
other players talk about Farrell (whether that be Lions
teammates, club mates, England teammates) to realise that above
anything else, he is a team man.

The stats section on Rugby Tonight was very interesting -
England near the head of the table in most stats that matter
prior to the SA game, but badly let down by efficiency in the
red zone and especially ruck speed against SA.
Red zone efficiency is something you’d expect to improve with
time given the number of relatively new caps in the squad, but
ruck speed is pretty telling for selection.
A back five of Itoje, Hill, Coles, Curry and Vunipola was
inevitably going to struggle in that area. Something like Itoje,
Lawes, Willis, Curry and Dombrandt loses a little in the air and
a little in absolute heft, but all 5 players are notably good at
the breakdown instead of 2. Given the game England want to play,
there’s absolutely no way the backs can execute it if they’re
not getting quick ball.
To some extent Eddie’s hand was forced in this series with Lawes
and Dombrandt unavailable (at least when the squad was selected)
but persisting with three locks on the pitch and sometimes two
on the bench and using Hill over Ribbans or Tizard (who at least
bring a bit of pace and aggression) looks like the wrong call.
