I'm quite excited at the idea. Love anything new and spangly,
such as the new Stands at Bristol which were a joy to utilise.
Apart from only being able to get instant coffee that is.....

I used to work for a very big firm and they used to book
training days outside of the office - to have a change of scene
and also the need for space.
We once went to the new Arsenal Emirates Stadium. It was an
excellent day - good catering, facilities, we had the place to
ourselves and there was nice opportunity to get pics from
various parts of the ground and explore a bit.
The Arsenal brand was important in all of this. There was a
heritage, and a quality there. Whether you buy into that or not
is another matter - but it certainly worked.
Quins have a really strong brand and I think corporate events
like this, probably on a slightly smaller scale, would be a good
income generator. But the competition is tough and you need
fancy new facilities. The matchday supporter bars won't cut it
       - so a new ground would be perfect to tap into the west and
       south west London corridor businesses.
I'm pretty excited about all of this. I may even end up getting
a season ticket as well as by the time my now 3 y/o son will be
the right sort of age to start going to games too!

needs to be much more scope for the site to make money on non

       are on.

really think there is scope to step up. With a brand new ground
there will probably be a flurry of new season tickets taken up
so there will hopefully be an initial spike. May be more of a
challenge to maintain that long term though.

Absolutely agree with this. If you look at the clubs that are or
are moving towards being profitable, the factor that makes the
difference is the non-matchday revenue streams. At the moment we
have the bars and the lounges that can potentially be used.
That's something, but there's a limit to how flexible they are &
what use they can be put to. A newer facility that is more
adaptable than the Stoop is as now will allow the club* to bid
for/offer the use of the stadium for more types of event and
       conference.
If there's a way to make the pitch useable by others too
(without going full artificial) that might mean we can loan out
the sporting facilities to local clubs/sports. Heck, we're
already doing something similar with the Hockey pitch next
summer. If we can become the home of England Hockey, that offers
more revenue too. Why not? It's perfectly plausible...
Plus, the larger capacity opens up the possibility of more music
events. At the moment there's a bit of a gap in the venues
available that can accommodate a medium-sized tour, even in
London. You have venues like Wembley/Twickenham/Olympic Stadium
that can host your really big shows like the Rolling Stones, U2,
etc. After that, you've only got the O2 that can host a 20k
audience before you drop down to venues that host 10k. If we can
offer a venue in that 20k to 30k mid-range, like we did last
summer with Elton John & Little Mix, then that's yet another way
       of getting money in.
All in all, I think the larger stadium is a good plan, and could
even mean that seat prices are reduced slightly to draw in more
       folks (we can dream!).
*I say club, but really we should be talking of Harlequins the
Company, of which the Club is a part.

Wow £40m! If a redeveloped Stoop can get even a fraction of that
       it would be worth it.

Any one know how much we currently make from non rugby
activities? Is it a reasonable return for the investment already
made in ground development?Should we be making more?
Given the apparent failure of bond scheme would makes us think
we will get an adequate return on the high cost of a new
       stadium?

       Simple maths............
I think we have around 9k season ticket holders? Paying on
       average £400 per person?
If they were to reduce this to £300 per person to incentivise
current STs to renew, bring friends along and to encourage new
STs, we'd need 12k to make the same money on STs alone before
you add merch, food, drink etc.
15k to 25k seems sensible. 20k would be a pointless increase,
30k (or more) feels like too much.
Add in more concerts, hockey etc, and there's a strong new
revenue stream. We shouldn't underestimate the usefulness of our
       location.

25k is realistically a minimum for an increased size, given
we're building from scratch. It sould have the ability to be
increased without too much work to make it into a 30k to avoid
having major disruption, in case we do well at growing the
fanbase over the next 10 years.
