Great signing, adds a lot to the squad.

Could factor in if Dombrandt will be away with England though.

With EJ's stubbornness, I actually wouldn't be too surprised if
we didn't see Dombrandt at England for the 6 Nations, especially
if he sticks with Billy V and Simmonds (or even moving Curry to
8)

I’ll wager if he signs Alex plays more for England over the
season, meaning we need a captain who bar injury is going to be
a mainstay.

I have a feeling that the England 8 slot will be filled by Billy
and Mercer for RWC. After that I think Billy will retire from
Int rugby and Alex will get more of a chance.

Making a choice of Captain around Crazy Eddies whims would be
even more insane.
Alex sometimes captained the team in the year we won the final.
Since then, he has gained even more experience.
Secondly, he is the current vice captain.
Lastly, he is a Quins fan through and through.
Not making him Captain over a player who had just joined would
be insulting
[edit:damn autocorrect :-)]

‘Insulting’ is probably taking it a bit too far.
As you say, he’s currently vice captain, not club captain and if
Lewies moves on/is forced to retire, it wouldn’t be crazy to
consider someone with Launchbury’s huge wealth of experience.
Personally I’d give it to Dommers, but I imagine he would be
mature and professional about it if we did give it to
Launchbury.
In any case, we’re speculating about something that may be
completely irrelevant. I think it could be true, but there’s no
official confirmation of Launchbury re-joining as yet.

Is noone else feeling both underwhelmed/concerned by the idea of
us signing Launchbury? This isn't the classy 2013-2017 version
we'd be getting - it's the post-catalogue-of-injuries version.
For me, he hasn't been the same player for a number of years
now. He's a name, but that carries with it a heftier price tag
and I don't think his recent (and by that I mean the last few
seasons) form warrants it, especially given how much of a gamble
he now is fitness-wise. Sure, there's value he'll bring to our
younger locks in terms of his wisdom, but if we're spending
serious money on a second row I want to feel confident that
he'll play 75%+ of Prem games in a season... If JL gets on the
pitch for 50% we'll have done well.

If Mercer hits the ground running with Glaws, off the back of
his French form he will 100% be going I think. Simmond's wont be
there, so really it's going to be Alex or ZM. I have a feeling
EJ has been in Zach's ear a bit, so wouldn't be surprised if Hes
favored over Alex

I agree. Although Simmonds will be available for RWC selection.
As an aside, I actually thought Saturday was one of his better
games for England.
