       I guess that the ref would have been in the wrong position to
       see any of what happened close up. Usually, they stand behind
       the kicker - so he was probably 40m or so from where the
       touchdown happened. So, I think it is fair that he wasn't sure
       if the try had gone beyond any dead ball line, etc.

       Thanks both - I think you must be right about whether the ball
       had been through the posts and then back out.

       If the ball had cross the try line between the post then blown
       back, it's 3pts and the ball is dead. However, I am unsure of
       the law if it cross the try line (it didn't) and blown back in
       field without going through the posts, or indeed if it had cross
       the dead ball line and blown back if the ball if it would have
       been in play.
