Dan Biggar left Saints

Dan Biggar has immediately left Saints. Does anyone else think
that this very quick leaving and Saints having Fin Smith at fly
half at maybe a third or half the money was all done to sign
some Wasps players. I think we will see Jack Willis signing for
Saints very soon.

I'd be very surprised if Biggar wasn't a marquee player. I know
reports are to be taken with a pinch of salt but he was rumoured
to be on circa £700k. He'd have been at the very least on
£400-500k.
Although I'm not sure it was done to sign Wasps players, I'd
wager it's more likely that Saints are living a bit too close to
the breadline and are acting now in light of what's happened to
Wuss & Pests.

If he was a marquee, it cannot be done to sign Wasps players.
They cant join as Marquee, and his salary wouldnt be part of the
cap (so wouldnt clear any space)

Unless they move (for arguement’s sake) Lawes into the marquee
slot and use the money they had been spending on him to bring
(e.g.) Willis in.

That did cross my mind, but can you do that mid season?? Could
get confusing

I would suspect Saints already had 2 Marquee players and as they
are only allowed one from this season unless the excluded
players are within the current contract, Biggar leaving means
they cannot make another player an excluded salaried player.

Eggchasers mentioned how the combined loss of income from the
two home games they won't play against Wasps and Wuss - pretty
much makes up Biggar's salary - so it could be about insulating
them against financial difficulties.

On the local news reported that Biggar requested an early
release to his contract.

His knew his contract wasn't being renewed next season,
Northampton agreed to the early release because they had already
brought in Fin Smith.
