It looks to me that statistics don’t really count for much but
points on the scoreboard do. You can have 90% territory and
possession but if you don’t score points and the oppo scores 7
from their 10% you lose.

Another, quite fundamental thing that England were worse at than
Argentina was scoring points.

Few people in Twitter have highlighted the shocking lack of
effort from Farrell and Nowell to chase back after the
intercept. That sort of lack of effort by players who aren't his
favourites would see them dropped permanently. It just goes to
show that not all players have to earn their place

Sure, points on the board are more important than stats,
obviously, but stats give you insight into why points
were/weren't being scored. In this case, the key stat that
explains why England struggled to convert possession and
territory into points is that they lost the ball more often than
Argentina did

I'd say offloads that happen long after contact aren't as
effective as offloads that happen through contact.
Otherwise they're just another pass that makes a ruck slightly
quicker. It's about how much space the receiver has and how
little time to react the defenders have.
Billy going into contact, being wrestled for a few seconds, then
offloading backwards to his 9 is better than losing the ball but
not a particularly effective offload.
I also don't quite get what you mean about changing the point of
contact. Contact has already happened. That's why it's an
offload and not a pass.

I have to say I thought it was pretty obviously a knock-on so I
can't really blame them. And the guy who picked it up is way
faster than both of those players, who are in the side more for
their deep thinking than their ability to run fast... ;-)

I hope the backs wind in the constant running over and slapping
the backs of the forwards for doing something fairly straight
forward. I understand supporting team mates when on top, but it
felt OTT in my view.
I might start running over to my colleagues at work patting them
on the back for logging on and responding to an email

Even at the Ams’ lowly level.
And to some extent I can understand it. I don’t think many would
bemoan players celebrating a try. Likewise a try-saving tackle
or turnover.
So why not a big scrum drive or penalty won?
Put another way, what should be celebrated by players and what
shouldn’t?
