Unless there is a major shift in plan, I honestly don't see the
point in playing Marcus. Happy to see Jamie George back also, as
Luke has been a liability for England recently conceding silly
penalties and has demonstrated fairly poor decision making. I
can't see EJ dropping both Nowell and Joe, but being as he got
on the scoresheet I wouldn't be surprised if he starts again at
11.

EJ blames the defeat as he was distracted focusing on the WC
getting long term strategies in place. Call me old fashioned but
if you are trying to focus on the WC next year, maybe start
players who are in good form, in their correct positions, who
will be the future going forward?

England made 9 offloads to Argentina's 1. I really wish that
people would actually look at the stats before making easily
disprovable claims. From actually looking at the stats, we see
that basically the only thing England were worse than Argentina
at was turnovers lost (13 to Arg's 8), which to me suggests that
England are still settling into their patterns, and that it
won't take much for results to change

I think that England's fortunes won't change while they play
conservatively.
Basically they tend to kick their penalties if the penalty is
within the opponent's half. This means that they only get 3
points. If they need up the restart, then the other team
equalise with little effort.
If they start kicking for the corner, then they have a chance of
5/7 or worst case, they lose possession which usually means that
they get another chance at a lineout, etc. Basically, unless you
start scoring in multiples of 5/7, you leave yourself at the
mercy of losing a game due to a simple interception.
On Saturday, it also didn't help that Maku was not great in the
scrum. You basically need a solid set piece if you want to score
in 5s or 7s.

Poorfour did say effective offloads. Yareet pointed out they
were largely tip ons; there were a couple of others off the
floor and one from Billy I remember when he was being held up.
Good effective offloads happen on the front foot when you get
through contact, and the receiver is in space as a result. We
offloaded to people mostly running into a tackler or just as an
attempt to avoid a ruck.

I would strongly disagree with that definition of an effective
offload. There are plenty of reasons to offload that aren't just
to put someone through a gap - primarily to change the point of
contact, allowing you to make a dominant carry and get front
foot ball. You also mention offloads off the floor, which are
popular at the moment as another tool in the arms race for
faster ruck speed. Would you say that an offload isn't effective
if it directly leads to a clean break being made on the next
phase, rather than putting someone through a gap immediately?
