interested in beer and being there than what’s going on on the
pitch.

So, on the one hand tickets are overpriced but on the other most
of the crowd are willing to buy a ticket just to be there.

I had the faint hope that the RFU would draw the obvious
conclusion from the fact that tickets for the Argentina game
this weekend are still available.

I certainly don't want to go and see England play at the moment,
it's utter dross to watch. I'll catch it on TV if it fits in
with other things at the weekend!

The RFU will charge as much as they can to maximise profits
which is what they need to do. If people keep paying higher
prices and selling out Twickenham that’s fine, it’s good
business. From my limited experience, the last international
game I went to was England v Italy when Browny got knocked out,
there were very few people in the area I was sat in that seemed
interested in the pitch. They were all getting beers or having
loud conversations amongst themselves. My brother who doesn’t
have a clue about rugby went to an England v Ireland game just
before lockdown. He only went as some of his mates were going
because they thought it would be a laugh. One of them had got
tickets somehow but they weren’t rugby fans it was just
something to do.

There are four blocks of seats where there are 2 seats together
or more (the seats in the corners and the expensive middle of
the pitch seats) the rest are all single seats. The conclusion
to draw from that is it's a virtual sell out. There are 51 upper
blocks, 51 middle blocks and 36 lower blocks.

An interview with ex RFU CEO, Francis Baron, in the last edition
of The Rugby Paper revealed that in 2012 (I think that was the
date) there was a £62m surplus in the accounts. apparently,
there is now a £27m deficit; there’s your answer to high ticket
prices….

Plus the overspend a few years ago on the East Stand Hospitality
complex didn't help much either...

No, sure, but the RFU had a large turnover and profit for years
prior to COVID which cut their income by about 66%, I think.
