Faithless playing BG14

Now that should be fun.
If you’re going to moan that they aren’t for you, you must be
pushing 65, coz I’m 50 and was well past my clubbing best when
God Is A DJ came out.
Just like Pete Tong this is firmly for those in their mid to
late 40s - ideal rugby crowd age.

I'm 52, and my immediate response was "who???" Pete Tong was
painful to listen to, but at least I knew who he was!
Couldn't they shove this sort of dross out in the car park for
those who want it? It's bad enough that we have to go over the
road to the Concrete Mausoleum at all, but this is just rubbing
salt in the wound!
Pete Tong was by a country mile the worst act to date, but so
poor is the sound system at Twickenham that I've yet to hear a
single act that didn't lessen my overall enjoyment of the day.

As I said in a previous thread regarding musical acts at Big
Games, the club is very limited in what acts can fit into such
an event. Whoever is playing will need to be able to have a
setup that is easily wheeled out/taken off the pitch in a matter
of minutes. That rules out any act that relies on larger setups
of properly mic-ed drums, guitar/bass amps, keyboards,
pedals/effects and the like. Those setups take a lot of time &
manpower that can't be justified for a 20-30 minute set. Even a
medium sized Pop/Rock band would also baulk at losing control of
the sound to the generic stadium PA system at Twickenham. I know
people dislike large concerts there, but the bands at least have
control over the sound & what the audience hear through
determining the equipment used all the way from amps, speakers,
mikes, mix desks, etc. Any artist at Big Game will need to
relinquish that to a generic sports stadium PA system that's not
set up for "traditional" live music performances like a normal
gig setting.
An ideal act for this sort of event is comprised of as few
members as possible needing live mikes, with as much that can be
done off-rig via electronics such as MIDI, synths, Decks etc.
That is a lot easier to control in a quick setup & route through
a mix bus to the general PA that is more acceptable to the
variances of that system. That's why we've had DJs or bands that
can do vocals live while the instruments as heard through the PA
are actually recorded backing tracks.
The reason I know this is that I work in an associated industry
that makes the equipment for Broadcast, Live & Studio audio.
This is the sort of kit that I spend most of my day testing
(playing with!):

I mean this is cute.
But if you’re 52, what were you doing in the late 90s that means
you can claim you haven’t heard of them? Was it Take That or
nothing for you?
You were 25 when Insomnia came out..
I was a massive indie kid but you’d have to have never listened
to any radio station, watched any MTV or any other music tv show
to genuinely react with “who”.
Twickenham is a dreadful venue for music, I’ll give you that.

If you'd said Faith No More I would've known who you were
talking about, but I was never into dance or electronic music,
so no, Faithless never made it onto my radar.
I never liked MTV because I never had (at least in the 90s) a TV
with speakers good enough to want to listen to music on, and as
for radio, if the likes of Radio 1, Kiss or Capital were your
sort of thing then I'm sure Faithless were on all the time!
They never made much of an impact on the likes of Absolute
(Virgin as was) or Planet Rock though.
