Danny for another year?

Take the source with a pinch of salt,but..

Very welcome if true. There certainly has been no drop off
despite being in his more advanced years for a player. Also, it
gives us a chance to sign a proper up and coming prospect for DC
to tutor, for when he does go. (Gjaltema/Steele etc are not the
first choice players we need to get the best out Marcus).
Simpson from Worcester is without a club so would be my pick.
Porter also has been solid for Wasps...

That's encouraging news if true.
To go from Danny playing 80% of game time minutes to leaving,
would be a massive hole to fill without a 'name' replacement,
and I am not sure Quins will do that. So another season where
maybe he finally shares the minutes more, sounds good.

Sorry to dampen the mood but I'd actually rather we went all out
for Rafi Quirke so we had a bone fide 9 to play in our system.
Still give DC an extra year on reduced terms, as Rafi will be
with England, so he'll still get a fair share of starts.
My logic is that we have 3 backups who aren't at the right level
so wouldn't want to gamble on another one.....

Will you stop!?!
FWIW When Danny signed a 0ne-year deal, I always assumed you'd
bring on a new 9 after the World Cup. Aaron Smith is in contract
until the World Cup

Sorry Yareet, I know I'm a broken record. I just really rate him
and think both he and Marcus playing together week in, week out
would be incredible.
I promise to stop now!

Whats his contract situation? I've not found anything to suggest
a possible end date only that he is most likely on an academy
contract. If Steele/Gjaltema are up at the end of this season we
could probably get rid of them, and afford Quirke, DC and use
Stafford.

DC? Nah his academy contract ran out a couple of years ago ;o)
Quirke is in talks with Sale at the moment. I've said elsewhere
on this board that I'll be amazed/shattered if we don't fight
very hard to keep him. He's the clear number 1, a local boy and
we've got him into the England set up. Plus, he'll have Ford
outside him.
It'd be like Smith leaving you guys to join.... Leicester.
The common belief is that our marquee is Manu but he'll be off
after this season. That opens a space for Tom Curry to become
our marquee and (some of) the money spent on Curry can be
shifted to Quirke.

Yeah, Quirke is going to be someone Sale bank on. I appreciate
they have a lot of talent to try and keep but they don't have
strong competition for him and the way they play really benefits
from a quality 9 even more than most other sides.
Rodd, Curry, Curry, Ashman, Quirke, James, James, Carpenter,
Roebuck... plus their recent signings like TOF, Hill, Ford...
plus guys like Manu, the Du Preez clan, and so on
Gonna be some difficult decisions but you'd expect Quirke to be
ahead of pretty much anyone not called Rodd or Curry come
contract time for the home-grown players

The one thing Quins can offer Quirke that Sale can't is game
time with Smith. Ford is a similar quality flyhalf, once he's
fit, but Smith is likely to be the leading contender for the
England shirt for the next RWC cycle, and if Quirke wants to be
in prime position as scrum half, then playing regularly with him
may be a drawcard.
Not saying it's likely, but if I were in his shoes it would be a
factor I'd consider. Since he's likely to be behind JVP
(depending a bit on the coach but I think people see JVP /
Quirke as Youngs / Care: The Next Generation), it's one way he
can raise his stock with the England setup. Unless Smith goes to
Leicester to play with JVP, of course...

I think it's probably too soon to tell who the backup to Youngs
is. JvP and Quirke have had basically the same opportunities and
both done well. Quirke was injured for the summer tour otherwise
it might well have been JvP kicking his heels.
