What’s the news around Lynagh? Is he sidelined for a while? I
don’t recall reading much.

It's gone now, but a few days ago he had a photo on Instagram
with his leg bandaged up, think he said he'd just had a second
operation.

It's not just March's omission that's bizarre for me. Porter has
also been selected at the expense of both Slade and Lawrence.
Lawrence is arguably the form 13 in the Prem at the moment.
Porter... just bang average. I don't get it at all.
The only possible logic I can think of is that Porter can
technically cover wing (I assume this is also why Joseph has
made the cut) - but, A. So can March & B. I do just think Eddie
is placing far too much emphasis on utility players nowadays. I
absolutely grant him that it's incredibly useful to have in an
RWC tournament, but only if you're still largely selecting the
highest quality, most in-form players available. Realistically,
when would Porter play during the RWC? Against minnows maybe but
against any serious country, Porter will only play if/when Manu
is injured - at which point you can bring a replacement into the
squad anyway... So why not take someone who is good enough to
play against top sides and can actually share the load with Manu
and make him less likely to get broken?
I just can't think of a less exciting player to have 23 on his
back for the RWC - when we're looking for impact in a tight game
against a tier 1 nation in the QF, on comes Porter with 15 mins
to go. Gamechanger right there.

Porter was also absolutely dreadful in Australia.
Maybe Eddie got him confused with Potter, or likes the accent.

Joking aside, I reckon your latter point probably plays a role
(even if it's tiny!).
Lawrence's performances have been drawing widespread acclaim so
using Eddie logic he must be ignored until the 'hype' has
quietened down or all other options are unavailable.

If that’s the case, how come Murley has been called up. Many
pundits and journos have been singing his praises along with us
Quins and now he goes and picks him. Mind you he’ll probably not
get on the pitch and will come back broken.
