I think Marler is in a position where he has some freedom about
which games he plays for England. He's still one of the best in
the world, & Jones knows that. He' been clear in the past that
if England need him for a serious competition, he'll put
everything into it, but the AIs & tours are counter-productive
for him, emotionally. I would expect that he may feature in the
6N, but almost certainly be a part of the Build up & squad for
the RWC.

The problem with Joe I is that I think he is now more concerned
with his London Palladium performance in April 2023 than the
World Cup.

I think Eddie's moved past him. With Genge and Rodd he has two
players who are good scrummagers and dynamic around the field,
and Mako still has some high quality skills & a big engine even
if his scrummaging is a weakness. Why make allowances for a guy
like Marler if the alternatives are just as good an option and
bring something to the table in attack that he can't?
Sure, if there's injuries he'll probably get called up, but I'd
be hugely surprised if he was involved otherwise.

Marler is streets ahead of Genge and Mako in terms of
scrummaging, and a very good defender. However, he offers very
little in the loose. I don't really know anything about Rodd.

Rodd is an excellent scrummager. Genge is improving a lot and
has been a plus there for England.
Marler's scrummaging this season hasn't been quite the same
standard as before.

"Very little" is overstating it a lot. He doesn't offer Genge's
linebreaks, or Mako's passing, but he regularly carries, and
though he rarely makes big yards, he equally rarely gets pushed
back or turned over. It's not flash, but it's an essential role
especially when the side has slow ball.
It's also a choice. There are very few props in world rugby who
are top class in both the setpiece and ball in hand. Mako
regularly comes unstuck against the best scrummaging sides;
Genge is a bit better but still has vulnerabilities (and I would
be willing to bet that if he does become a bombproof scrummager,
he'll lose something in his carrying).
The bottom line, though, is that Eddie knows he made a big
mistake starting the 2019 Final with Mako rather than Marler,
and it may have cost him the RWC. I don't think he'll go into
another RWC without a pair of top class setpiece props. It may
be that one of the current squad can overtake Marler in that
regard, but there's a gap to be bridged.

Is it typical of EJ to only include two tightheads? What's
happened to Will Stuart? He was pretty decent in Australia and
Kyle has hardly had a great season so far (though it seems he
was much better vs Glos at the weekend).
Congrats to Cadan - now we've got what we wished for on that
score, we're going to have to cope without him and Green. If
Northmore is also out then we may see Marchant move back to 13,
then a mix of David, Beard, Cleaves, Morris, Oresanya I guess
for the back three? Whichever mix we pick is going to be a bit
inexperienced. I suppose we could put Lennox in at 13, then
you've at least got Marchant and David together in the back
three with some form of first XV cohesion.

Stuart suffered a pretty serious knee injury in Bath’s game
against Sarries I think? Shame because I thought he had secured
the number 3 shirt ahead of Sinckler on current form. Who’s
behind Heyes in the depth chart now is pretty unclear. Cole?
Davison?
If Murley, Northmore and Green are all unavailable, i imagine
we’ll bring Marchant in to 13 and then play Beard and Morris (if
fit) on the wings.
