The report on Rugbyrama actually has very little detail.
It basically just says that Stade could do with a player like
Joe.
It is written in a way that makes it look as though Joe has been
discussing it with his agent. But, this is misleading - when you
read it again, you can see that Joe actually discussed the move
to Super Rugby with his agent a few years ago.
There is also a report on Rugbypass. But, the source of the
Rugbypass rumour is Rugbyrama.
I'm not sure that this warrants too much speculation.

Wasn’t the condition of his NZ jolly that he signed a 3 year
contract? Would he want to rejoin Gussie?

The Squad/Contracts/Injuries sheet says that his current
contract is up to the end of this season. This sheet tends to be
fairly accurate (I tend to do the updates [emoji1] )

The Rugbyrama report is actually more specific that that. It
says that they are in advanced contacts.

Joe has made no secret of his wish to experience different rugby
cultures, hence the slightly COVID curtailed NZ trip. I could
well believe this rumour. And I'd imagine that Stade could pay a
lot more than Quins given the current financial climates in
English and French rugby respectively.

with the current situation financially for rugby and the wealth
of young talent coming through it wouldn't surprise me if we
weren't able or willing to pay the required salary. would be
gutted to lose Joe but understandable in the current
circumstances.

Apart from money I can't see any positives for him going to
Stade.
They're hardly the team they used to be and he would lose him
England spot!

$$$
He's a hell of a player and I wouldn't begrudge him a payday
after being so shabbily treated by Eddie. Quins have a hell of a
crop of centres and wings coming through but he's still magic
and would be first choice for me every day. It'll be a real
shame to see him leave.
Unfortunately we can probably expect to lose more players like
this in the next few years, finances being what they are. C'est
la vie.

I imagine we’d struggle to keep him under the next cap reduction
and with young players coming through this year offering promise
it’s probably a decision that makes financial sense for both him
and the club - sadly.

I think championes may be referring to the fact that it has
reduced since Marchant's last contract renewal - and now, with
the cap being lower and his market value being much higher,
something has to give... and that something is either him or we
compromise on another area of the squad.
I'm trying to think where we could make room to pay him what
we'd need to to keep him... There isn't much slack anywhere in
the squad, is there?
