       Lies, damn lies and statistics!
We're a much better team this year IMHO. The commitment and
belief (to use part of an old tag line) are there in spades
compared to last year. The defence is improving week on week
too. We may have lost that match last night but we are the only
team to have really made Sarries work for it this season. We'll
know more by Christmas but I think we'll finish comfortably mid
table. I'm not expecting top 4 but I think that would be
unreasonable to expect, we are still missing a good 1St/2nd in
       a few positions.

The one stat that I think gives a good indication of where we
are is missed tackle percentage. I may do a bit of research to
see where we are this season compared to last

Actually gave this a tick and then thought, "hang on", the other
comparable I've seen this season was our 'A' team on Monday
night! Very similar circumstances in that Sarries camped in our
5m zone for long periods and our defence held firm. Obviously
our defensive system and mindset is through the club which is
       obviously good for the future

Presuming OP is tongue in cheek so I won't pile in. Don't
remember many games last year we saw 6 of our starting pack
       making 20+ tackles.

You guys have great defence, which will pay increasing dividends
       as the season goes on.
Most notably, the fact that you've picked up a BP from every
game, means that only a tiny qualitative difference is needed
for you to pick up significantly more table points.

The loss to Newcastle at home in Feb saw similar tackle stats.
Around 200 tackles at 91% success. 5 of the starting pack made
       over 20.

Well my recollection of last year was we did well until the New
Year until the wheels came off. Until then we were on target for
a top 6 place (maybe). So not too shocked if the stats show us
doing much the same. What I'm hoping is this is the worse we
play this season! As we iron out the issues with the defense,
attack, set piece, penalties and walking wounded then we improve
with every game. If we do that we are going to be a force to be
       reckoned with.

People weren’t happy with how we played this time last season-
we said a win’s a win but the performances in victory and
defeat, Sarries aside, weren’t convincing and eventually once
morale dipped further any grit went out of us. This season is
better in that regard, with simiLr injury woes, and against
opposition who I think have mostly been playing better than last
year in general, even where the teams and positions in the
       league may be similar
Certainly some players in full and shield matches have been
really impressive and despite second season syndrome for Smith
       he’s still been generally good

I think the defence appears to be better in general, but it was
cack against Bath (as was the majority of the performance) and
we've been disappointing against Saints and Bristol. I don't
think there's much difference from the first half of last season
so far and I'll be surprised if we equal or surpass the number
of wins before Christmas compared to last time.
