Not quite sure about the negative reaction. Yes Saints made some
errors, but I would say the majority of them were made under
pressure from our defence. We scrambled incredibly well and
deserve a huge amount of credit for that against one of the best
attacking sides in the league. It wasn’t perfect, but a win was
all that mattered.
We’ve had a very tricky start the season and we could have
easily been 4 from 4, even without a good number of first choice
players. Walker, Collier, lewies, lawday, Chisholm, Dombrandt,
Esterhuizen and Lynagh are all missing and have had a limited
impact so far. Considerable amount of talent who would be
involved in most match day squads, especially coming up against
full strength oppos. Saints were only missing Lawes from my
understanding. Think a two week break is a blessing in disguise
and hopefully a few guys on that list will be back for Tigers

Neither team were close to putting together a full 80 minutes
yesterday.
Saints had more territory but were the more clinical and I
thought the result was a fair reflection of the game. Saints
inaccuracies a combination of lack of execution from them and
some good scramble defence from us.
Scrum was a disappointment. We started well but lost that edge
over Saints as the game went on.
We looked decidedly weaker after ringing the changes off the
bench and were in danger of letting them back in, but that's
reflective of our fairly lengthy injury list.
We are short of our bigger units, but once a couple of Lewies,
Andre, Dombrandt, Chisholm and Lawday are back, we should start
to see front foot ball more regularly again.
I think Lennox was the official MOTM yesterday. I'd have gone
Northmore. Couple of big turnovers as well as a nicely taken
try.

Not really. There are plenty of reasons the
TMO/broadcasters/statisticians need to know who is in possession
at any one time, I'm sure it's all in their systems already. The
ball doesn't need to know, it isn't sentient - it's just
returning data regarding the position of the ball relative to
the pitch at any one time. The computer interprets that data.

4 games including 3 against genuine top 4 contenders is a very
tough start and 13 points from a possible 20 is a decent return
(not to mention above the expectation on the roadmap). We were
minutes away from it being 20 points so we really can’t be that
bad.
Saints ‘dominated’ periods of the game, but so did we. That’s
sport and it’s often the way it goes against opposition of a
similar standard. Very few teams can dominate their opposition
for a full 80.
We probably were lucky to win, just as we were unlucky to lose
last weekend.
Looking at how things have played out so far, it’s clear that
the better sides in this league can all beat each other on any
given day.

I think in the scrum, we had the edge in power from the off, but
at the second scrum Saints managed to get outside Louw and turn
him in (and got away with it - I'm not sure I'd have rewarded
that body angle as a ref) and we decided to play more
conservatively. I don't remember a scrum going against the head
until the subs started coming on.
The impact of the bench is a fair point - but it's also worth
looking at who was coming on. In most cases it was 3rd and 4th
choices who haven't played a lot together. It's not surprising
we lost some shape and some impact - but the important thing is
that they hung on to win.
We could do with one of our big carriers back, but I suspect
that as Anyanwu grows into the role we might miss them a bit
less. That said, I'm looking forward to when we can have Andre
soften up the defence for 60 minutes and give Lennox a bit more
space to use his skills as well as his power.

Agreed. On the one hand, Tigers will likely have their missing
international players back in the mix by then, but on the other,
they play Sale next round which will be a physical encounter.
They’ll want to bounce back after their drubbing at the Stonex,
so hopefully they take that out on Sale, but also be a bit
softened up prior to our game.
