Marchant's put in a number of superb defensive displays for
England and it's been a real strength of his game for England.
In his one match in Australia, he didn't miss a tackle and was
not obviously a defensive issue. Was poor defensively at the
weekend no doubt, albeit on the wing.
Porter? He went 5/4 and 11/5 in defence in his two appearances,
and he put in a couple of really bad misses against Saints at
the weekend as well.
I am willing to bet that the "work ons" are about running had
into a brick wall.

I don't disagree with any of that, and I don't think that his
defensive display yesterday was indicative of any systemic
issues in his game, but I can see why Eddie Jones would think
that Marchant would be better off sorting it out this week with
his club instead of bringing him into a different environment
for a few days just to work on one or two minor issues.

Really not a shock, EJ always throws in these crazy squads. Tizz
makes sense as Itoje & Isikwe are out so he needs to keep his
Sarries quota up, although Tizz hugely deserves it after last
season.
Care, we all knew was coming. Marler, if you're going to go to a
world cup without your best scrummaging loose head, then you
deserve all the criticism you get. Although I am taking on board
that this is a training squad and won't fully resemble the AI
squad.

Stuart was a unit in Australia for England. Sure Genge got all
the baby rhino plaudits, but Stuart, was excellent and would
have given Jones the confidence to drop Sinklair, as Stuart is
the superior scrumaging and lifting Tight head, he can also
distribute and offer a large frame in defense and attack.
Interesting squad.

He's been dropped and told to go away and work on some things -
it's not just about the training squad. He was dropped in
Australia for Porter, who then performed abominably but has been
rewarded with a callup, while Marchant's been cut. It's not a
"work on it this week" thing, otherwise he'd not have been
dropped in Australia.
It seems pretty straightforward to me - Marchant's out of the
picture for the AIs at least.

Not sure many of these are as surprising as mentioned above.
Tizard is defo an England star of the future as we know, and he
clearly hasn't been picked just coz he's moved to Sarries. Last
season was his big breakthrough year in the senior game, and
it's highly likely he'd have been picked if he was playing for
us as well. Not sure you can make much of a judgement on his
performance this season compared to last after 3 games.
Care - england career ended for the second time at 38 mins into
that Oz match.
Marchant - dropped never to re-appear after the first Oz game,
it was always going to take a long time (or maybe never) for him
to get back.
As for Northmore and Murley - well let's just be grateful we get
to keep them.

Very interesting to read that Itoje is injured again after being
rushed back to play Quins - makes the decision to allow Sarries
to play all their England players even more ridiculous.

Well I am sure many are disappointed but good for Quins. Not
entirely sure Joe Marler is 100% focussed on rugby. He is a
great leader for us but not sure for World Cup. Joe Marchant
maybe a luxury Eddie can not afford but may squeak in if there
are injuries?

Another slightly baffling squad selection from Eddie. I'm not
sure what more Murley and Northmore could have done to put their
hands up especially when you consider he's called up May,
Cokanasiga, Dingwall, Will Joseph and Guy Porter who have done
nothing this season to deserve it. Mind you, Sarries fans are
probably bemoaning the absence of Ben Earl and Max Malins, and
Exeter must be wondering (like me) who's going to play 13 in the
absence of Slade/Marchant/Northmore.
