Lewies gave the player talk in the Debenture Lounge before the
Sarries game. He mentioned his return to play. I forget the
detail but it seems he had an op over the summer and it didn’t
go completely to plan and this is delaying his return to match
fitness.

Would be ok if we had some powerful ball carriers elsewhere in
the team...but we don't. Will need a big defensive effort and
for the scrum and lineout to give us field position for some 1st
phase strike moves in this one.

Els on the bench for Scottish this week

Wilco, Walker and Herbst have all carried well - and Kenners
made a surprising number of yards in heavy traffic last season
(and has visibly bulked up since then). I think it's going to be
a question of getting the right people in the right place.

I think having two jackals in Evans and Kenningham makes a lot
of sense. Compared to almost every other Prem team, Exeter do
tend to go phase after phase in the middle third of the pitch,
rather than kick away after a few phases. If we get our defence
right, there's potentially lots of opportunities for steals, and
we know how good our attack is with turnover ball. Of course
Ewers, Kristen and co might just grind us into submission with
their relentless carries... but I do see the logic behind the
selection.
Whether Lamb or Jurevicius should start over White is open to
debate.
In terms of carrying, I agree the back row looks a little
lightweight but its up to the tight five and Lennox to step up
in that department too.

Think it’s a bit unfair on Tommy, should have got a start after
last two games, and maybe DC and Smudger off the bench,

Totally agree.
I also think that Smith works better with Care.
But, maybe the view is that Tommy is a better kicker and could
kick is to victory in a tight game

Not sure it's unfair on Allan. He has played well so far, and
kicked Smith, but Smith is simply a better player. We're already
missing Dombrandt and Estherhuizen, so makes complete sense to
include the important players who are available.
Our second half last week was poor, and the main play-makers on
the pitch have to accept some of the blame for that.
A real shame we're without our first, second and third choice no
8s. Not good.
