SMITH RETURNS AS HARLEQUINS AIM TO TOPPLE CHIEFS

England and British and Irish Lions fly-half Marcus Smith
returns to start for Harlequins this weekend in what will be his
first match of the season. Smith is joined in the matchday squad
by fellow England international Danny Care, who will look to
appear from the bench.
Smith and Care's fellow summer tourist Jack Walker will lead the
side in first his start of the season as the team travels to
Sandy Park, joined in the front row by Wilco Louw following
injury to Will Collier last Saturday.
A final change to the starting line-up sees Archie White slot in
at number eight in place of the injured Alex Dombrandt.
Amongst the replacements, Argentinian prop Santiago Garcia Botta
and versatile forward Matas Jurevicius will make their first
Gallagher Premiership appearances of the season, while wing Nick
David returns to fitness to don the 23 jersey.
Each club won its respective home game when the two teams met
last season, whilst Harlequins' only victory at Sandy Park since
2014 was in the Premiership Rugby Cup in February 2020.
Harlequins Scrum and Transition Coach Adam Jones said: �There�s
always lessons you take away from a defeat and we�ve had a
pretty good review of last weekend�s game. There are things we
can do better and we�re looking to head down to Exeter this week
with those learnings and have a good crack at Exeter.
�Last season aside, Exeter have been an incredibly consistent
team over the last five or six years and have always been in and
around the final. Going away to Sandy Park, you know if you have
a team that can stick up well against them you�ve got a pretty
good side, so this is a great match for us following the
Saracens game.
�We�re going down there to have a good crack at them.�

There's a slight mis-match between the article and the listed XV
and XXIII. They say Nick David is on the bench as #23, but the
listed team has him at 14 & Northmore on the bench. Could just
be a mistake...

A decent 23, allowing for injury. We're a bit exposed at 8 and
in the bench front row (with Kerrod presumably swapping back to
TH), but overall it's as strong as we could hope for. Looks like
Jurevicius may have withdrawn on Weds because one of the other
back rows failed a fitness test so we needed to keep him for the
bench.

Think we struggle for powerful ball carriers that will create
gaps out wide. But as has been said as strong as we could expect
with current injuries.

Would have preferred Matas or Lamb at 6 and shift Kenningham to
8. Baxter over Botta at 17 as well. Exeter have gone massive
with their second and back row, could be a very tough afternoon.

Real shame that we have no dommers. Him not being in the team
really hurts us. Need a Smith masterclass you feel and wanting
to prove a point. V.strong chiefs team

We've moved on from the White bashing after a string of strong
performances last season.
