I get what you are saying but that is also the point Im trying
to make. Botta and Stafford for example, need to be putting
themselves in the frame. Yesterday was a good chance for
Stafford and imho he blew it. Steele injured, Care may miss
games this year and tbh I though Murray looked more promising in
his 5 mins than Stafford did all game. Likewise Benson over
Edwards
Taulani is low down the pecking order, but we have the injuries
now so he has a chance to put his name in the hat. Chisholm,
Dombrandt, Lawday all possibly out, he had a chance to get in
front of White (I really hope we dont see Evans, White and
Kenningham against the big Exeter pack on Sunday)
Normally some of these would be down the pecking order, but with
injuries and players missing there was a chance for some of
these to stake a claim, I dont really think any did.

Personally Chisholm is on a very slippery slope and forever
seems to injured. The gulf between Alex and then the next likely
replacement (With James injured) is fairly big in my view and
that could make all the difference in games like Sarries just
gone. If wasps were to go, and players were to leave, I'd love
to see Barbeary here. Realistically he is some way way down the
pecking order for England and could be a very good impact player
or someone to step in for Alex. OR, even to play both as we saw
Alex move to 6 for some of his more recent England stints due to
subs etc

Benson vs Edwards is an interesting one. Benson has been coming
through the pathway for a few years, IIRC, and I've seen it said
on here that he's ahead of where Marcus was at the same age.
Edwards is a project player converting from 7s who was
surprisingly effective in the 1st XV last season.
Last night they were both playing with a team that had never
played before including 6 senior debutants - but Benson will at
least have played with most of them in the academy. From what
I've seen of Benson he has loads of talent (and speed) but a lot
to learn about game management, and needs to calibrate when to
use his team vs when to go himself. Edwards still looks at the
game like a 7s player, but with 1st XV players around him he has
people who can react to that and make the most of it.
Short version: I'm not surprised Benson looked better than
Edwards last night, as it was an environment he was probably
better suited to.
But overall "bunch of players who've never played together
before play like they've never played together before" is hardly
a surprising headline...

I might need my eyes testing, I thought he was alongside
Matthews? Although in my defense I only tuned in for the second
half and saw the teamsheet via the email sent out. All these
academy players all blur into one you see.

Was due to play, pulled out last min and was replaced by Green.
I think we missed him, Green was game but Jurevicius would have
added some bulk and given us another carrying option.
