Saracens hadn't had the pre-season to bed in their new
offloading game (the same offload made successfully over and
over and over as they got better at it) so it only came together
in the second half. Luckily for us, Lewington was on a totally
different script from most of their players, or the score would
have been closer at half time.
Loss of Dombrandt was the turning point for me - there were a
couple of moves in the second half that looked like there was a
Dombrandt-shaped hole in them. The taking of three points to
bring the score to a draw wasn't a turning point per se, but was
       pretty depressing.
When they get all their players on the same page, Saracens are
going to be pretty hard to stop - I think they've taken the
fitness up a level from the high bar we set over the last couple
       of seasons.
A final note about Farrell's antics in the closing minute - he
really isn't worried about his reputation is he...

We fell away in the second half. We lost Dombrandt and they
brought on two Lions in Mako and Jamie George, so a big swing in
quality, but we got sucked in to playing their game.
Our kicking game wasn’t good enough. If you’re going to trade
kicks you need to kick to compete or hit the space. We missed DC
       badly today.
All said and done, given the teams on paper, a narrow loss is a
       good result

It looked like Nacho was captain at the end. I would've thought
it was going to be Marler or Tommy A, given their experience &
seniority, but I heard Foley ask Nacho what the decision was
when we were offered the choice between a scrum or lineout in
the SE corner near the end...

The injuries affected our game plan today. Scrum was on top
before Collier came off and anyone would miss Dombrandt.
Gjaltema will learn from his mistake. I mean when you can bring
on Mako V and George we were always going to struggle but it was
disappointing that we didn't get a bit more out of the second
       half.

So who is it that can make the seemingly arbitrary decision that
says ‘ yes, Billy V can play in this one, but, no, I’m afraid
that Marcus can’t ? Where’s the integrity of the Premiership in
all this ? I’m off to Exeter next week. Who do I have to
influence, to make sure Marcus can play in that game, but I’d
       rather Cowan Dickie, didn’t ?

I’d also be intrigued to know if we are told Marcus/care etc
cannot play by someone outside of the club, are they covering
their wages for the period they have been Externally limited?
It’s the same as football. The traditional top clubs always get
the rub of the green and someone somewhere will have a vested
interest in it (wether it’s VAR, or lack of repercussions from
       that champions league rebellion).

Agreed. The whole situation is ridiculous.

They were much better than us second half - not just down to
Quins game dropping off first half standard but mainly down to
sarries upping theirs -they were so much faster at everything
and it was pretty inevitable the points would come, although I
do think galteima had a terrible second half and gifted a try.

From the BBC match report it seems the clubs have no say,
post-match comments from Tabai and McCall:

       --- Quote ---

in and we get the thumbs up or thumbs down.
       >
       > "We have a discussion and whether we get a thumbs up or thumbs
down, they give us a reason. We accept that and move on.
       >
       > "We knew that it was probably going to create a kerfuffle for
our fans and for probably everyone looking in from the outside,
but we can only move forward with the group that we have."

       > Saracens boss Mark McCall:
       >
       > "We chose to start Maro, Billy and Owen and they were a big
part of why we won. Jamie's and Mako's experience coming off the
bench at this kind of place is good, but it was a good team
       performance.

Ah, so Eddies involved as well is he ? Probably thinks that the
Sarries contingent are still rusty from their season in The
       Championship.
So, I ask again, where's the stated rationale for the Billy V
and Marcus decisions ? Please can someone from the decision
making panel, make it public, so that we're all clear on which
players we will and will not be watching over the next few
weeks. You cant run a professional league with such apparent
       arbitrariness.
