After watching the game back it was obvious that their bench of
internationals made a difference and we badly missed Dommers and
Will. I was shocked to see Salarycens offloading and throwing
the ball around which made the game a lot better to watch than
the usual grinding borfest. They were a lot better at the
breakdown and managed to slow our ball down a lot but I thought
they went off their feet a few times and got away with it. Some
are blaming Gjaltemas attempted pass to Green that led to a try
but Saracens left more tries out there through their own
mistakes.
When it comes to the international player count I think we
only have Joe Marler with double figure caps, all our others are
on a handful or less. Overall considering the team we had out
the result was very close.

Ahh right. On the note of Bath, how crap are they? Sale were
down to 14 for about 2 thirds of the game and still came out
comfortable winners. I’d be very worried if I was a Bath
supporter.

And every time the ball was bouncing around after a high kick,
that so-and-so McFarland got his hands on it. For me, he was the
pick of an excellent off loading performance by all the Sarries
pack.

Not looking good, are they? It occurred to me yesterday that
maybe, just maybe, they're slightly less concerned than they
should be, in the absence of relegation. But maybe that's just
wishful thinking.

I think that plays a part of it. Last week they did well to stay
in touch but this week - at home - they were dreadful. Sale
won’t get an easier 5pts

Whatever you think of their players, they were very good in that
second half and their offloading was pretty slick throughout.
They were good value for the win. Which is very painful!
It is a real frustration that we stopped playing in the second
half. The box kicking didn't work but we kept doing it and only
invited increasing pressure on our defence. Maybe we couldn't
play our way out of the squeeze but it was frustrating to see us
kick the ball away so often, when we were carrying quite well.
We really missed Dommers, André, Chis and Lawday.
On the positive side, we were really electric in the first 25
minutes or so. The handling and cohesion looked terrific. Our
scrum looked good and the lineout was mostly decent again (if I
remember correctly - apart from one critical mistake in the
second half).
All in all, there was enough good stuff to give us heart going
into the next 2 big games against top 4 rivals. The coaches and
players will be smarting. (We need Dommers to be fit, though!)

I get that one of the reasons we are pretty unique is the way
our backs play, especially in open play, but I think everyone
underestimates how good our pack has been the last few years. If
smith gets no ball, or ball after a 10 second ruck time with all
defenders lined up, he cant do anything, and that is where we
were yesterday 2nd half - with no ball, their defenders all in
position. Our Kick chase game also fell apart , poss due to
tiredness as much as anything. So stage 1 of Quins game is quick
ball.

Just re-watched the game and slightly OT, but can anyone
explain why van Zyl was allowed back on when Davies had to go
off? From the commentary and ref links I didn't hear any
reference to HIAs either when van Zyl initially left the field
or when Davies later departed. Can someone please enlighten me
or is it another Saracens dispensation?
