Sarries got such quick ball from the breakdown and made plenty
of line breaks. I struggle to recall our line breaks or
offloads.
I think the scoreline flattered us in the end. Sadly they were
just a lot better than us today, the more so as the match wore
on

I think it probably did but I was pleased that despite Sarries
having a fair few opportunities to really turn the screw towards
the end, they ended up scraping the win. Maybe I’m too used to
Quins teams capitulating against Globogym at these points. The
strength of the respective benches and the untimely loss of
Dombrandt and Collier contributed to a loss of control in areas
we had parity or a bit of an edge.

with LBP

Spoke to Marcus as I came down the steps (and got an obligatory
selfie) and he said he should be playing next week.
But I do appreciate th3 angst about Sarries being able to roiled
all their internationalists

Sarries had more internationals on their bench than we had in
our 23. So a BP loss isn’t all that bad.
Though you do wonder what was their case for 4 or more English
players to have to play. They already have a stronger squad
than anyone else in the league. They brought on Scottish
internationist Duncan Taylor, and we brought on Hayden Hyde for
his debut. Says a lot!

I thought we played ok, there tries were soft but well worked. I
also thought us going for 3 pts was correct both times what cost
us more was the obstruction at the last LO on their 5m line. Win
that and set a maul or phase play and we stood a real chance of
snatching it.
57 points, sunny surrounded by good people I had a good day. LBP
will be well needed as the season evolves.

Sarries accountant must be a wonder worker but I think it’s fair
to say they are the most hated team in the league for this
reason. Their brainwashed following will tell you we are jealous
of their success and are haters but ultimately they are all
smarmy toss pots. In any case If my memory serves me correct,
quins scored the fastest ever try bonus point win which was
against Sarries (albeit the season we we were relegated).

We did. But I recall that the record was beaten soon after,
against us - Tom Voyce, Bath (I think).
I was at the Sarries game. A Friday night. A Sarries supporting
friend had been giving it large that he'd find me after the game
for a gloat; strangely, after the game, he'd turned his phone
off.

Sarries were superb after the break. We were very good before,
doing our usual creationg of something from nothing.
Ref wasn't great, for both sides. But the teams have to adapt to
that. Right at the end when we were fighting to get the ball for
one last attack, everyone piled in - including Mako, straight in
the side, in fromt of the ref. Nothing happened. That's the type
of reffing you can't adapt to.

A couple of things. The game turned for me when we lost
Dombrandt to injury shortly followed by Marler's substitution -
we seemed to lose any leadership on the pitch. I asked at the
time who would be captain (and thought Evans was talking to the
ref), but without our senior decision makers it was slightly
inevitable we lost direction. I also can't recall a single
instance when we recovered a high ball from our own kicks -
either from kick-off or box kicking. Definitely something that
needs to be worked on if we abandon the all-court running game
in favour of kicking.
