I think Danny said on the Rugby Pod that he and Marcus were in
the top 5 for most played minutes last season as where most of
there's had longer injuries mid season so played less minutes.
Still stinks though in comparison to someone like Genge

minutes or you let none. It’s frankly a joke and brings the
league’s integrity into question. Smith, a young lad with no
history of injuries has to take time off and is a back with less
‘serious collision’. But the injury prone players of Farrell,
the Vunipolas, Itoje and George can come back when they want

Is age a factor? Do they take the GPS and collision measurements
into account? I don't know if any of that makes a difference
either way, it seems pretty unclear to me.
I don't know what they look at, so I don't know whether it makes
sense. If anyone else does then that would be helpful to
understand more. Until then... it seems odd at face value, but I
can't really have a definitive opinion.

The same pod answered the question about Genge when they said he
is unlikely to play much in the Challenge Cup (can't see him
       going to Zebre for example).

       Telegraph article with some details.
Billy starts despite playing more matches and more minutes than
       Smith...
Does seem ridiculous and it's yet another contest where we've
been robbed of some tasty matchups for whatever reason. The
       premiership is failing us.

That's fine, but in context still doesn't make much sense.
Played one of the most attritional games of the year in the Prem
final, as did the Sarries contingent. Genge started all 3 Tests
in the summer in one of the most demanding positions, and has
had the shortest rest out of anyone.
Farrell played 3 full Tests. Billy played 3 full Tests (minus 10
mins for YC). George played in all 3. Mako played in all 3. Maro
was concussed in the 2nd Test.
Smith already had an extra week off, plays in a (probably)
proportionately less physical position, and isn't available this
       week.
I'm pretty sure there's no foul play, no bias etc, but it isn't
clear enough how the decisions are made. "Individualised" should
       come with a rationale.

I don't think the Bears coaching team have a crystal ball and if
they have a loose head crisis and have to play Genge then the
whole thing was pointless in the first place. If it's all about
the governing bodies showing respect to the players re amount of
minutes then none of them should be playing at the moment as if
they all break down now, that's no good for them the clubs or
       England.
I'm not sure Genge's ACL knows if he has a rest coming up, so
won't wait until it gets a rest!

I feel this is an utterly disgracefully unfair example of
Sarries' ability to bend the Premierships' arm and rulebook to
an extent which no other club has.
What we lose though in players will be made up for, I'm sure, by
an even more ferocious home atmosphere charged up at this sense
       of bitter injustice

Wasn't Smith one of the top tacklers on tour? At international
level, teams send their big runners down his channel and he
doesn't shirk from offering himself as a speed bump.

Dream team back row starting together for us. Been wanting to
       see that for a while.
