Wade, but OK rather than notably good.

or chasing kicks. When you’ve got someone like Tommy Freeman who
scores more tries and is significantly better at the things
Radwan isn’t great at, it’s pretty obvious why he’s not higher
up the pecking order.

No-one’s talking about Earle’s but they weren’t drastically
different IMO.

The big question is whether Radwan can learn to get better at
the things he's bad at. I think he has improved and looks
willing to learn, albeit he had a long way to go. Wade by
comparison kept falling back on his speed to compensate for his
positional wekanesses, and at international level that was a
career ender.

I watched the game yesterday after knowing what the result was.
Some of the comments (clueless/shambles/etc) in this thread seem
bizarre.
Newcastle scored 2 tries against the run of play (Radwan and
Earle). I was surprised that Earle's try stood. It looked as
though the lazy runner disrupted our attack and led to the
intercept.
I thought that generally, our scrum looked good.
But, there was clearly a little communications failure between
the SH and hooker. I think that we didn't manage to hook a
couple of balls. One looked as though it was caused by out SH
getting his timing wrong. But, this is to be expected when both
are new/inexperienced.
The stats look very good for Quins. So we were clearly doing
plenty of things right.
I was surprised that the ref didn't give Newcastle a warning
earlier in the game. They were giving away loads of penalties in
the red zone. In some cases, there were multiple different
infringements that happened almost simultaneously. (However,
these usually only count as 1 penalty in the stats.)
As en example, I think that we were doing a catch and drive.
Newcastle lifted a leg of one of our players. At a similar time,
another player went way offside to prevent us using the ball
from the maul - but - it only counts as one penalty.
I wasn't surprised that Newcastle scored a few from close range.
I think that is what they are good at.
I did like our S/H's kicking game. It seemed as though all of
his kicks were contestable.
Overall, good game to watch and a good win at a location that is
not always the easiest to win at.

It was similar to how many of last season's games went. 5
points away from home on the first day of the season is really
all you can reasonably ask for.
That being said, the concerns in defence remain - it seems
sometimes that the only way we get the ball back is by conceding
a try so we can then get possession and go on to score one
ourselves. Maul defence is a weakness, but Newcastle are quite
well drilled there and our 2, 4 & 5 won't be hugely familiar
with each other yet. Key will be to not give away pens near
halfway and be defending close to our line from the resulting
kick. It probably seems like we're conceding more here because
increasingly teams are turning down 3 points for a kick into the
corner.
Dombrandt looked great - proper captain's performance and I
thought Head went really well, especially on his "darts".
Lennox looks sharp and distribution was probably better than I
was expecting. He maybe didn't run as much himself as I'd
thought he would do - and generally we didn't look very direct
but should improve as players become more used to each other
(Allan and Lennox have surely not played many/any games together
- certainly not with Gjaltema at 9). Comparing to Andre in this
department would be unfair to pretty much every centre in the
world barring a small handful and in any case we should be
capable of (and did) generating linebreaks with a good running
inside centre even if they are a few inches and stone smaller.
Looking ahead to Saracens, given their PRC game was called off
and that they looked to be using it as a pre-season game,
perhaps they'll be a bit slower out the blocks. If we can build
a good early lead then their usual gameplan may have to go out
the window.

I’m a little bit confused re. the comments on our defence TBH. I
think we need to be more specific.
Re. the maul defence, there’s no shying away from the fact that
we’re not good at this and as As @Maggiephilquin said, we’ll
definitely miss Symons in this department. That being said, it
is probably Newcastle’s strongest suit (McGuigan’s try rate says
so too) which probably made it look more of a problem than it
might be against other sides who places less emphasis on this.
From an open play POV, I genuinely don’t recall us obviously
struggling at any point TBH? The tries for Radwan and Earle
weren’t defensive issues, they came from our attacking mistakes.
Our defenders were out of position because they were (rightly)
expecting to be involved in the next phase of attack - the
errors were the players clearing out Green or giving a pass that
should have been held (lazy runner definitely disrupted us too),
not the defence.

Those are fair points - and I've gone back and checked the stats
and there is nothing there to suggest we had defensive issues
outside of the maul and a couple of turnover tries. I'm
probably reflecting some early season over-eagerness to see a
dominating defensive display and letting a nine-point margin
sway the underlying reality in that we didn't allow them to play
too much. We did concede 14 turnovers, but with nearly 60%
possession and a very low kicking from hand % then that's maybe
not surprising (plus I'm sure we will sharpen up).
One mention on the scrums as well - I think some credit may have
to go to Trevor Davison, who is a pretty tidy operator. Plus
I'm sure the pitch there isn't an ideal surface.

I am sure that there are multiple sources of stats
But - this post
HTML https://tinyurl.com/z86v2c5s
shows:
61% possession; 63% territory and 13 Turnovers won against 10
conceded.
It also shows the huge difference in penalty count

On the scrum, you could hear Pearce warning Gjaltema and
speaking to our front row and basically saying that our delayed
put-ins / timing issues were the reason for the scrum problems.
I think that's what he was saying anyway.
I was surprised at the time that Earle's try wasn't pulled back,
and still think it was iffy having watched the highlights. The
problem is though that Pearce loudly said "oh come on, just get
on with it", or words to that effect, when we complained about
their lazy runner, so he then couldn't really go back and look
at it. If he'd said nothing during our attacking phase then he
could have asked the TMO to have a look. He might still have
come to the same conclusion, but having so clearly waved played
on at the time he didn't really allow himself the option of
looking again. Maybe I'm over-analysing though.
Murley would have been disappointed to spill a fairly routine
cross kick / kick pass for a try, but certainly made up for it
at the end to stop Radwan.

I was looking at the stats earlier. Neither of the Joes conceded
any penalties.
Are you sure you were watching the correct game?
(Actually, maybe you were correct. The following all conceded 1
penalty apiece.
Joe Murley, Joe Louw, Joe Hammond, Joe Kenningham, Joe Lawday,
Joe Dombrandt, Joe Musk and Joe Kerrod)

Maybe he was talking about Joe Pearce, who was stupid for
awarding it
