London Scottish partnership

I am planning on trying to make a few London Scottish games this
year, it will be interesting to see how many Quins players they
will have before booking my ticket
I am planning on this Saturday as I can’t make the Quins game in
Newcastle and Scottish are at home. I was thinking of a short
report on how the Quins players are getting on.
In the last pre season game they had starting:
Hayden Hyde
Will Trenholm
Fin Baxter
Sam Riley
Matas Jurevicius
Bench
Cassius Cleaves
Will Hobson
Vilaimi Taulanu
Conor Selvin
So quite a few, interested if anyone else is thinking of going
to a few games?

I've no idea how strong the respective teams were but to win up
in Edinburgh is some achievement.

It seems that Riley has lost his back up spot to Walker. Will be
interesting to see if he turns out regularly for Scottish.
Taulani also seems to be quite well down the pecking order

It's interesting to see Riley drop below Head and Musk - after
last season?
Walker still first choice though.

Taulani is understandable given the back row resources at our
disposal. Would you pick him ahead of a fit Dommers, Evans,
Kenningham, Lawday, Baby Chis or Lewies? He seems to have lost a
little ground to the back rowers who’ve come up through the
academy, though.
I thought Riley’s game time last season was basically down to
Musk and Head being long-term injured. Given that being a Quins
hooker has often been like being a Spinal Tap drummer, the
pecking order is essentially a matter of who’s fit. I wouldn’t
be surprised to learn that Quins are managing Riley’s game time
so as not to put too much of a load on him too early.

Completely agree re Taulani. Wasn't saying it was an odd/ the
wrong call, just a (very obvious!) comment really

Sam was suffering from a neck problem I believe so had an op at
the end of the season . He’s probably still under rehab fitness
regime and getting game time bit by bit.

I quite like a season in the Champ for Sam Riley tbh. Much
rather he start a run of games for Scottish and get some hours
in on the bread and butter stuff (consistently hitting jumpers,
hooking, scrummaging) than coming on for the last 15 mins of a
few Prem games a season and throwing in at a handful of
lineouts. For me, his "ceiling" (as coaches often refer to it)
is 4 storeys higher than Musk or Head - so in the long run, this
season could be the making of a future mainstay of our pack.
Hope he gets his head down and really makes the most of it.

Looking at it in that light, there are much worse head coaches
to work with than Joe Gray!

I had a little chuckle at how disruptive Scottish were to put
setpiece in the preseason game (and commented to the people next
to me that it was almost as if they had a head coach who knew
how we run things...)
