Interesting but surprising article in Times today: CSW left
because he wanted a payrise! Also had three concussions in
training. Decided risk/reward equation wasn’t for him.

He arrived well under cooked and I imagine the higher number of
concussions than his peers in training probably was attributed
to him lacking in technical ability. And to want more money? He
should be thankful for the wages he got considering he didn’t
really do much to earn the massive salary.

Why is any of that reasonable? Quins gave him a massive
opportunity. Every chance to get back into top-flight rugby and
become an in-demand player. Surely the salary he was offered at
the outset assumed he would play more matches. Most players
would say they want to play in as many as possible.
FWIW, he was very unimpressive when he did play. I had hoped for
a lot more. He may have been right that (as he "felt") he was
"back in his prime." Quins probably agreed — but his prime was
not good enough.

I work in recruitment and it always amuses me when a candidate
tells me what they're worth. Generally, it's the market that
decides; not the candidate.
I guess it's telling that nobody has snapped CSW up at the rate
he was asking for.

Imagine an employee on a FTC had spent a long period off sick,
and was mediocre at best, and then tried telling you they
deserved more money, you would wish them well in their future
endeavours and to return their ID.

People are entitled to ask, the company needs to decide what
they are worth based on the market. If they can't agree then
you have the right to move on. I have in the past had a person
tell me they were worth a lot more than we were paying them. I
considered what they said and benchmarked them against others.
I concluded they were fairly paid, they left shortly after to go
contracting as it paid more. They were entitled to their view
as a company we had to be fair to all.

Greedy chancer is my first impression. Sob story to journo
doesn't change my mind.... How many first team games did he play
again? Single figures? 100k a year was way more than the value
he gave....

£100k seems like a good wage for a squad player. The concussions
in training is an odd one as we don’t do much contact stuff
which is well documented by the people that supplied the special
mouth guards with the chip in it. I’m not sure about the £200k
as a barrister as there was a lot of publicity about them only
earning £12k when first qualified. Or was it baristas?
I don’t know what he expected to get paid as a fringe
player if internationals are on £200k +, First team regulars a
bit below that and academy £50k. I think we got more from our
academy lads. He should have been flattered that we still wanted
him. Good luck to him in his next career anyway.
