They're playing Ed Sheeran. I hope there will be riots at half
       time!
Admittedly I've not heard of half of those songs, so can't say I
       dislike them yet

The club want feedback on what songs we'd like to hear. But is
there a price difference depending on the song/artist? I mean if
we all vote for Queen/Bohemian Rhapsody is that more expensive
       than something by Ed Sheeran?

I'd make a few alterations. Firstly, back come the cheer leaders
with Motley Crue - Girls Girls Girls playing.
Then bung in Angel of death - Slayer and finally ACDC
Thunderstruck for the teams run out.

The cost to the club will be the same irrespective of which
songs are used. The PRS Licence fee is based on the type of
venue, number of people at the event and how often music is
played. Unlike a licence that covers playing the radio in a
hairdressers where the music isn't directly under the control of
the owner, there may be some need to report to the PRS by Quins
of which tracks are played in order to work out what artist gets
what, but it won't affect the fee paid by the club.

Thanks FF. I know it's different if you're putting together an
album of different artists tracks (anything by the Rolling
Stones is prohibitive, ever wonder why you hear them so rarely
       on compilations?).
We could all try this as a crowd then:

That's a different issue. If the music is under copyright (UK
law has that as 70 years after the writers' death), it is within
the purview of the rights holder as to when & where a song may
be used for commercial purposes, including broadcast, use at
promotional/political events etc. They can decide if they want
their music put onto a compilation or not. Likely is artists
such as the Rolling Stones guard their music closely. Some
artists have begun selling off their copyrights to corporations
for large sums of money (Springsteen recently sold his entire
       catalog for an estimated $500m!
  HTML https://www.npr.org/2022/01/04/1066388302/bruce-springsteen-neil-young-songs-music-catalogs#:~:text=Springsteen%20sold%20his%20entire%20back,at%20north%20of%20%24500%20million.}.<br
/>They no longer have any say about how it's used, but it means
they have the money right away. During both the 2016 and 2020 US
Presidential elections, Trump fell foul of the copyright laws
       when quite a few
  HTML https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musicians_who_oppose_Donald_Trump%27s_use_of_their_music<br
/>artists objected to his use of their music at his rallies.
There's also different types of copyright for songs. You can
sell the rights to a specific recording (The "Masters") but
retain the writers rights. Younger musicians who sign deals with
major labels find that in their contract, the label owns the
rights to the Masters while they as the artist have the writers
rights. This can lead to disputes later on, such as Taylor Swift
deciding to re-record her older albums after the rights were
       sold to a third party

Tbh aside from London Calling and Joker and the thief, count
care less what’s played if it’s some turgid “ dance track” to
keep the “ Youth” happy so be it

       Maybe they're a tribute band.
