I don't disagree, but this season he is also a coach for the
women's team so possibly a portion of his salary is excluded
from players salary cap .

Teams need players like him to make the training environment
meaningful but also to step up if the team thins out to a point
they are needed. White and Lamb were in the same boat until
they were needed. Matthews may fulfil this role too.
Yes, he's a long way down the pecking order but he understands
the Quins system well enough, which is probably enough to
prevent trading him in for Rob Miller...

Locks maybe but LH? SGB is poor at most things from what I’ve
seen. Baxter has potential but got battered too often for
England at his age group recently. Els has something about him
if he can stay fit but Kerrod is a big unknown at scrum time -
hopefully the preseason will be enough but it’s a very different
technique these days. I’m sure the brains trust have it sorted
though so be interesting to see how it rolls out.

He was on the club’s social media for the photo call with the
new shirt, so unless he’s done something very silly in the last
seven days I’d say it’s probably an unfortunate mistake.

He is studying at Exeter University, so can only assume he isn't
going to be available most of the season.

Fair enough but there are several academy lads currently in uni
and that doesn't include the new intake. Probably an error as
Somardino says.

Are we not more concerned about TH prop?! As I believe Baxter
and Kerrod have both now made the switch to LH, we actually have
FIVE senior (i.e. non-academy) LHs in that list and on the other
side of the scrum... that leaves only Louw and Collier as senior
THs. Which worries me - the plan is obviously to have Kerrod and
maybe Baxter operate as jack-of-both-trades. Which has never
worked particularly well in the modern era.

A case of needs must with the salary cap reduction, and we'll
see other premiership clubs asking props to cover both sides, so
I don't think we will be at a disadvantage domestically
(although Europe might be a different story).
I think Quins are slightly ahead of the curve here in developing
Kerrod and Baxter. And of course they have a scrum coach who
could play both tight and loosehead rather well.
