Heavily reliant on academy in some positions (second row and
centre) but that's to be expected with salary cap restraints.
Our season could depend a lot on call ups and injuries in key
positions, but guess that's always the case to some extent.
I think we really need to see one of the loose heads and 9s kick
on this season. I can see Marler retiring post world cup, so
hopefully Baxter can start getting some consistent game time.
You always want to start your best players, but the coaches
might have to start rotating Care a bit more

No real changes this season. The loss of Symonds could be huge
but in Irne the club hope they have a suitable replacement, plus
the Matthews/Hammond options to mitigate Tizard look sensible -
add in Dino's return from injury as well.
I think we’re supposed to be heavily reliant on the academy.
Little point having it otherwise…….
First Choice + Cover options - (It doesn't matter who the first
choice is - merely that there is good cover across the first 30
players)
Green / Chisholm
Murley / Morris
Marchant / Northmore
Andre / Anyanwu
Lynagh / David
Smith / Allan
DC / Steele
Marler / Kerrod
Walker / Riley
Collier / Louw
Lewies / Lamb
Irne Herbst / Matthews
Evans / Kenningham
Chisholm / Lawday
Dombrandt / Taulani

Nail on the head. Looks thin at second row/centre and LH when
Marler isn’t playing is a lottery IMO.

I'm waiting to see how Herbst settles in - if he is alright -
then i'm less concerned with Locks - Lewies, Matthews, Lamb,
Hammond and Herbst is not a bad set to work from - no real super
stars but hopefully we can squeeze enough out of them.
Centre is the issue and in particular 12 - Two seasons ago we
used Lang at 12 and we had Big Paul - to cover for Andre. Last
season we tried Jones there. We have tinkered with Marchant and
Northmore too - but not real like for like cover. Hopefully
Anyanwu can step in.
Props need game time - I can't see the club not selecting Marler
when not fit..... so it might leave a hole... options though....

Did Ross Chisholm not hang up his playing boots to coach the
women next season?

He is in the squad list at the top of the post. So i guess he
has not hung up the boots just yet.
I reckon he'll cover FH for A games and Prep cup - with Smith
and Allan being away.....

Not sure I agree. Botta’s not at the same level in the scrum,
certainly, but I thought Kerrod did well in his showings at LH
last year.
Baxter looked very good in the couple of games he had (and IIRC
even got an apprentice call up to one of Eddie’s squads), and I
am hoping that this season they feel he’s ready to shoulder more
of the burden. Given Joe is capable of putting in much longer
shifts than your average prop, I think giving Baxter the last 15
minutes is a good way to ease him in.
In the locks, I’d say the first choice selection is probably
Lamb and Lewies, with Hammond as the best bench option. Lamb was
a revelation before his injury and there was a touch of the
Itojes in his skill at disrupting lineouts. Herbst we can hope
will emerge as a replacement for Symons, but he will need a
while to settle. Hammond looked ready to step up last season as
well, and is probably the reason the club felt it could afford
to lose Tizard.
I suspect the club feel that their front row options are strong
enough that they don’t need to go down the route of monster
locks, and the set we’ve got are built more for mobility than
outright grunt. That should be OK with our usual gameplan but is
vulnerable against the big power teams.

Ross Chisholm is stealing a living as a player in my view. He
should of been moved on a few seasons ago
