The email wasn't only about the women's team though.
Depending on which email you got, the title was something like -
"Women's fixtures, new signing and win our Away Shirt"
The "Away Shirt" news was relevant to all.

Fair enough. The yes/no filter appears to be all that is
required, then.

I'm not sure how not being interested in women's professional
rugby makes me a misogynist.....
I'm not interested in Association Football played by either sex,
what does that make me?

It was your statement that said if I see Harlequins I assume it
means the Mens team.

So would most people.

I think that the original premise of this thread is that the
club are deliberately mis-representing emails by using
gender-neutral terminology and therefore misleading people into
reading stories about an inferior female oriented game (that
frankly has no purpose and should just be disbanded.) *
. . . and, in doing so, the club can say that the pointless,
female oriented game is actually more popular than it is due to
the number of people who have clicked to open the cunningly
disguised bait email.
* These are not my views - I do enjoy following, and regularly
attend Harlequins Womens and Richmond Womens matches.

Its not really bigoted or misogynistic to assume when you see an
email from Harlequins it relates to the mens team, whom have
been around for 155 years. This isn't discrediting Quins Ladies,
but if you stopped someone in the street and showed them that
heading I would be confident enough to say the vast majority
would assume it was the mens team, just because that is the team
they know.
Personally, its two seperate teams, so both should have their
own respective mailing lists.
However, If i was to play for Quins Ams, i'd then fully expect
the subject "Kent's International* Mercurial & bulldozing
mastermind dons the Quarters" to be sent globally.
* I have played in amateaur tournaments abroad. My highlight is
vomiting on Croatian tv whilst bunged out on the wing. This
counts as international rugby. No ifs no buts.

I think they do.
But, the Men's team's emails do promote the Women's team - and
equally, the Women's emails promote the Men's team. As does the
twitter feed, etc.

Oooh. You’d have to pass our stringent requirements. Do you have
a) boots and b) the ability to breathe?

I haven't got much to say that hasn't been said above.
One thing, though, is that the BBC have also stopped
distinguishing between the two in their headlines. However
that's not so bad because they also have a picture, from which
you can often tell whether it's the men or the women they are
referring to.
