Of course, England rugby need a brood base.
       There are some caveats.
Several of the traditional rugby schools offer scholarships - so
many of the players start in state schools, playing for their
local clubs. Then get scouted through the county and academy
systems, and are encouraged to apply for those scholarships.
If you have been to Wellington - and many of us have been to RFU
events there as parents - or to St Albans - shared with Old
Albanians and Saracens - you realize just how far removed they
are from the pith at your local comprehensive. It is not just a
different world, but a different solar system.
If we want more rugby in schools, and I think we all do, then
the RFU is going to have to change priorities.
It could start by not overpaying the England coaches.
If Eddie took a pay cut, we might be able to re-employ some of
the community officers that were made redundant in the recent
       cost-cutting.
I would also cut the fees -paid to the board and the perks given
       to the council.
However, we are never going to restore the lost playing fields,
so we need more links between schools and local clubs - which
means the 13 cannot continue to use them as a cash cow. Some of
the International and Premiership TV funding needs to be given
       to clubs to fund that.
Instead, we have given it away to Venture Capitalist in exchange
       for paying off old loans.

       It should do now, thanks.

Eddie has more players, more resources, more money at his
fingertips than most other nations (any other nation?). Isn't he
the man tasked with identifying/choosing the best England team?
All he's done so far is whirl people in then whirl them out
again. He doesn't pick players who challenge him. He picks
players out of position. He has rigid game plans with no plan B.
When you had a forward orientated game plan with Faz to kick the
penalties, he was the right man for the job. Now we'd all like
to see a more running game, is he even the best coach for the
       job?

He has never rated English rugby and rarely misses a chance to
denigrate it. He over values southern hemisphere rugby
experience and this has often come through in selection. He is
very narrow minded and seems to view his job as being trying to
find a single point of strength in the same way as the Japan
gig, as if England cannot do anything but produce brawny
unskilled lumps and he must focus on that.
And he came across as deeply obnoxious in that interview.

It's a self fulfilling prophecy. The team he picks and the
tactics he employs ensure that England look like clueless bunch
of 'bosh it up the middle' donkeys.

Go on Dinsdale, dare you to tell the 2019 squad to their faces
that their runners up position is due to them being
       "donkeys".....oh wait.... you wouldn't!

I'd suggest another partial reason is the country's obsession
with football. At my school (a state grammar school) we were
told at age 15 that our options were football, football, hockey
or football. The fact that a group of us played for the local
club helped persuade the teachers to have a rugby group, but it
took some pressure on our part, and a bit of rallying of other
       players.
We weren't a great team, but the football team(s) were bl**dy
       awful!

He's making the point that Eddie's approach makes players look
like donkeys, not that they are.
