Obesity is a big issue so any loans etc must be tied to
performance related programmes in the Community.

The problem with DMP is that they retained their Premiership
status because of where they are located, not the performance
record. (allegedly) last season their only purpose was to
provide 10 points to all the other teams and increase the points
difference as much as possible. They celebrated a try like
they’d won the cup due to its rarity. That’s not good for the
womens game at all. Throwing money from wherever at this doesn’t
solve the problem as far as I can see. As the Womens game has
grown in the last few years with the introduction of their own
Premiership competition , England dominance and the coverage of
live games on free to air TV, the Womens teams have become part
of the Premiership (mens) clubs. They share resources that can
only be dreamed of by clubs like Richmond who were so successful
before the mighty Harlequins came and wooed most of the players
away with all the fully professional facilities.
Spending tax payers money on artificially keeping a team
in a league they aren’t good enough for doesn’t seem like good
value. This may come across as harsh but it’s the reality of the
way things have gone. The bigger picture is that the standard of
womens rugby at the top level is increasing unfortunately some
teams get trodden on on the way up.

maybe learning things)

Quins Ladies, as they were, got where they are by taking over
Aylesford Bulls Ladies.

It is not taxpayer money, it is out of the RFU funds, which
mainly comes from the TV rights to internationals.
One can say the same about London Scottish - who got about £200k
a season down from £500k
The clubs at the bottom end of the Premiership did not add a lot
back to the game, they get about £2m a season from RFU funds.
Plus a team of four each week for free.
Remember, you are in a glass house.

Over 20 players left Richmond for Quins. Would they have moved
if the team had been run from Aylesford instead of Surrey Sports
Park.

All the Championship clubs were given the same amount of funding
by the RFU

Whilst I might contradict myself, not the first time granted, at
this stage of it modern day development professional rugby,
men's and women's, isn't profitable and is supported by rugby
loving rich people.
I personally think a whole rebuild is required along the
following lines, 14 in the men's premiership, 14 in the women's
premiership an 14 in the men's 2nd teir.
Each of the men's 14 premiership teams has a women's team and a
2nd teir championship team.
This way their is essentially only 14 companies to be funded
from central funding and TV money.
Whilst this is effectively ring fencing the men's and women's
premiership and also the championship it would, I think, help
clubs maybe break even as there would be shared asset between 3
clubs such as stadia, medical, media, administration and bigger
economy of scale as any sponsor deals would be for 3 teams not
just one, higher utilisation of stadia ect.
I just don't think there is enough money in the game to support
what is currently in place.

No. But if Harlequins Ladies hadn’t taken over the ladies
premiership champions they wouldn’t have attracted many players
from Richmond. They were playing in a league about 4 levels from
the top.
