Much as I, like lots of others think Joker & The Thief is a
classic song to run out to (it gets my adrenaline rising when it
comes on during a shuffle playlist in the car), even this song
is relatively old. It was released in 2006, when the likes of
Marcus Smith would be 7 years old! It's not surprising if the
players want something more in tune with their own tastes...

FF I thought the atmosphere and the crowd noise was more
important than the players hearing a tune they like?

What has the age of the sing got to do with it? I frequently
listen to music written 10, 20 or even 200 years before I was
born! Joker and the Thief is great, but Kashmir is a classic
too.

I think that it makes quite a big difference.
I would guess that the average age of people that post on this
board is in the region of 45 to 50.
I would suggest that the average poster on this board is a
little out of touch of the popular music culture.
E.g. I would guess that few posters on the board would have
heard "LF System - Afraid To Feel". (I had to Google it.)
"Afraid to feel" is #1 in the charts.
On the other hand, we are often told that the average age of the
squad in quite low. (23 or 24 from memory?)
I suspect that fewer member of the squad would need to Google
"Afraid to feel".

I've heard at least anecdotally that the music that the players
listen to on the way to games, during warm up, in the dressing
room, & as they run out onto the pitch is very important to
them. It helps psych themselves up & get into the right frame of
mind for the game. Look at players arriving for a game. Look how
many of them have headphones/earphones on/in. You often hear
stories about how this or that player is responsible for the
playlist for the dressing-room etc.

I broadly agree with this. Things have changed somewhat from
where things were when "we were lads". I'll declare myself as a
54yr old, so my formative years for music were the early-mid
80s. My dad was 54 when I was 18. He hadn't listened to any "new
music" since the early 70s at best. There was a real disconnect
between generations in terms of what they listened to.
Now those lines have blurred to the point of being hardly there.
That said, while there's a lot of new music that I listen to (&
I'm always looking for new artists/bands to explore) some genres
don't click with me. I can appreciate their musicianship, but it
doesn't hook me in the way other genres will do. That's due to
my music tastes being formed when they were.

My tec expert (daughter) says that there is a Harlequins
playlist on Spotify which I have listened to , unknowingly, that
had some bangin’ tunes on it.

There are two.
Harlequins Official Playlist which is very long and looks like
it's got every song mentioned on this thread.
Harlequins Big Summer Kick-off which is shorter and maybe not so
familiar. To an oldie at least.

Surely they should run out to the Abba classic "The name of the
game". Lull the oppo into a false sense of security?
