I think she made a comment about losing a couple of speaking
jobs, and the mirror reported that she was complaining of going
bankrupt. She very quickly denied the claims.
Twitter has gone full twitter on her. I saw somebody suggesting
recently that misogyny is rife amongst left wing zealots, and
the trans movement has given them a much wanted excuse to attack
anyone who endorses women's rights. Makes sense.

Fair enough. I'm off to read a biography of Ian Botham. I
understand he's a minor celebrity who did a few things 30+ years
ago!

She did a magazine interview blaming trans "zealots" for her
situation. And then says she's been living off an inheritance
and that that money's nearly gone now.
As for your "left wing zealots" thing - well, misogyny is a real
problem, in real life and online. I didn't have you pegged as a
champion of women's rights, but I do find it strange to make
this a left v right thing; I certainly don't think the right
wing has a history of putting women first. I don't doubt some
people are using this as cover to attack women, for the record.
It's absolutely bizarre how much the trans community gets blamed
for things (like Davies losing charity gigs because she's become
an anti-trans activist) when there's so few of them, there's
practically no high-profile trans people who are the equivalent
of Rowling or Forstater or Cherry or Davies or Linehan or any
number of high profile anti-trans people, and there's
practically no pro-trans media coverage.
It would appear that people want to be able to repeatedly
express opinions through multiple foghorns without any kind of
pushback at all.

Whatever your thoughts on Davies, I hardly think it's a stretch
to say that 2 year olds don't have an awareness of
'trans-ideology' or that nurseries shouldn't be involving
themselves in this stuff.

I wasn't aware we were talking about that. But I have no
interest in turning this into an argument over whatever talking
points are going to be brought up. I'm fully aware neither of us
will change our opinion a jot, and that most people in this
thread have largely solidified their point of view on trans
people (in sport or otherwise).

I thought I had posted this but it doesn't seem to have gone up.
I think the discussion is little unfair on Sharron Davies. She
was swimming at a time (70s and 80s) when a number of athletes
and swimmers lost out on medals in the major competitions to
East Europeans. It came out later that there had been
considerable drug use to improve performance by the East
Europeans over a number of years (remember the Press sisters!).
Those drugs were often male hormone based to improve muscle
strength, speed and endurance. So Sharron Davies like many
others felt aggrieved that she had lost out to competitors who
were artificially enhanced (see her defeat in the 1980 Olympics
where she took silver behind a swimmer who subsequently
acknowledged she had benefitted from illegal drug enhancement).
So I can understand why she would react now to suggestions that
trans women can compete fairly with biological women. Yes, the
science is not clear on whether trans women have advantages or
not (and the science is developing all the time)but she , having
suffered unfair competition herself, is keen to highlight what
she believes could well be unfair competition now. She may be
right, she may not be-we don't really know enough yet to
judge.But I can understand why she has raised her head above the
parapet now.

One of the reasons I spent a long while viewing this site before
bothering to register and post is because of the (in my opinion)
childish nature of much of the debate.
A small number of prolific posters unwilling to accept their
opinion is merely that - an opinion – and who must always be
right and so anyone with a contrary opinion must be discredited
and shouted down often with a mixture of misinformation and
misrepresentation in a strange belief that others can’t see this
ridiculous behaviour and that this somehow proves their point.
So I shall withdraw and return to the side-lines and content
myself with laughing at the know-alls and wondering if they will
ever grow up.
I’m sure I will have much to laugh at.

Ozzie. I agree with you for the most.
However, if I am ones of those who won't change their opinion
let me give and all some insight.
I have a transgender cousin, she has every right to play rugby
and the RFU planned total ban is offensive, they have not even
said they will setup a fledgling trans league. Just a total ban
on transgender person's playing RFU affiliated rugby.
The message this send is that my cousin is not welcome in rugby,
be it a supporting fan or amature player, a blanket ban on
transgender person's is morally wrong, full stop.
What's the bet the RFU would take her ticket money and drink
revenue though or is that not welcome either?!
Yes, many issues to review, research and assess but a total
blanket ban is not right.
This stance by the RFU drives division, resentment and hate.
I love the culture of rugby but if members of my family are not
welcome then I also am not welcomed by the RFU.
At least Quin's have a fan group, although it saddens me we
can't be all be fans/supporters together I do understand the
need for a separate organisation.
This is my last post on this issue as I feel to strongly on this
matter to be impartial, but let me make it 100% clear that
division and exclusion has no place in rugby, civilisation or
the 21st century and it should not be tolerated.
