O/T Player Welfare

Reason of the proposed World Club Cup I have mixed feelings, it
excites me and it would be great to truly see who is the best
club side globally. However, it does concern ,e that these are
just more games for our top players to be involved in and it’s
not just the games it’s the training and everything that goes
with it.
So overall I am against it unless something else gives during
those seasons. For instance the qualified clubs don’t compete in
Europe and concentrate on World club cup, no qualifying teams
then compete for Europe. It then that devalues the competition!

The quotes I saw said it’s one extra game for the World Club
Champs - 5 instead of 4. At a time when players have far too
many games, that’s still one too many but perhaps not as bad as
many feared.
That said, I can’t see many English sides going deep into this
comp for the foreseeable future for the same reasons that I
can’t see many English sides doing well in Europe.
In practice, it may therefore mean the same or fewer games for
Prem teams.
I would however question the need for this comp.
The only other world club championships I know of are in
football (and to some extent League’s World Club Challenge) and
I’d question whether a football club would rather win the
Champions League or the Club World Cup.

Its all about Money, as deciding club world champions is now
simple. Do the same as football and play the Aus NZ SSI winners
v European Cup winners
its only 1 game, and only Argentina and Japan would miss out.

Football has a whole competition

Which kinda proves my point that it's not exactly high profile.

Not from my reading as included in the SH teams is the Japan
League 1 champion. The reason why Argentina is excluded as they
no longer have any professional rugby teams. What will be
interesting is that the new Fiji Dura or Moana Pasifika teams
could qualify form Super rugby.
What I do find strange is "South African franchises, who will be
regarded as ‘northern hemisphere’ sides" - so the world is flat
after all.
Also noted is this statement "It is thought that qualification
will be purely on merit, with no national representation
guaranteed". So how may English teams? - two at best.
Back to the Subject matter Re: O/T Player Welfare - this is only
being played in the Lions years - 2025 then 2029.

I think that these type of competitions are only good if the
clubs actually take them seriously.
I suspect that some clubs would fill the squad for this sort of
competition with guest players. (Like we did for the world 10's
competition and the world club 7s competition and basically any
other competition that isn't the Premiership or the Champions
Cup).
I suspect that 2 or 3 teams will really go for it and the
remaining teams will just go for the jolly.
I really doubt that many neutral supporters would wake up early
to watch (for example) Sale Sharks vs Kobelco Kobe Steelers at
6:00am on a Saturday morning on a hot summer day in July.

Not sure about this. I know loads of people who get up to watch
the Super Rugby (or whatever it’s called this year) games. And
the NZ v Ireland games - me included.

Generally yes, but it's also a judgment call, right? Do you
always get up for NZ v Argentina? I do make an effort to watch
most matches but I definitely bail on ones with the weaker
sides...

The issue for me is it’s more competitive games, so you get to
Prem final, get to CC final then you’re onto WCC semi and
potentially final you then have a summer tour of some sort. So
for the best players after all it’s who we’ll want to see not
some random guest player, it’s more attritional game time.
As has been suggested I’m not sure outside those who qualify
will really care about it so it worth it at all?
I don’t watch Super rugby nor really pointless games that don’t
have Quins/England involvement so why would I bother with even a
top billed Montpellier v Crusaders match in a completion that
doesn’t matter.
