Being serious for a bit, I think Quins are well placed for a top
4 this season.
Most of our rivals have had both high turnover and significant
cuts to squad sizes because of the new salary cap; Quins have
had one of the lowest turnovers in the league and have kept our
squad size. The stability should serve us well.
Annoyingly, the other team who've managed to achieve stability
in their squad are Saracens, and I hate to say it but they're
probably favourites for the title already.

On the whole, I agree. However, a lot will depend on call-ups
and injuries.
In the past couple of seasons, our players’ involvement in test
rugby has been reasonably limited, but with more players getting
England call-ups (Walker), Esterhuizen and Allan back in the
fold with SA and Italy plus others on the fringes of test
recognition like Murley and Lynagh, we could well be stretched
too thinly.
I’m thinking more like 5th or 6th but hopefully that’s a
pessimistic view.

Loss of our international players for over the half the season
will be difficult to deal with. Not sure if Marler will be one
of them.
Losing both Marcus and Tommy would be tough. Edwards is decent
but not sure I'd want him as our main option for 50% of the
games (I know Allan won't be unavailable for the same periods
as Smith)
Second row I see being a problem.
Who knows how Sale and Exeter will bounce back. Will Gloucester
continue to improve, will someone else come out of the chasing
pack - Wasps maybe.
Will tigers struggle without Ford and Genge, will Saints be
strong again.
I think we might finish 5th sadly, but obviously hopeful for top
4. Can't see top 2

It's going to be a weird season and the strength of most sides'
squads will be sorely tested. So I expect Saracens, who have a
ridiculous squad compared to everyone else, to be top of the
tree. Beyond that, who knows?

Thinking about this logically (ish)
Saracens are consistently a top side and that won’t change.
Nailed on top 4 unless all their key players go down injured for
ages. Tizard will tear it up there and it’ll be hard to watch.
Leicester are very deep and will be competitive again if not as
dominant. Think they’ll miss Ford and Genge and might drop off.
Pollard won’t play every game and they haven’t replaced Genge
who is talismanic.
Both of them will be in the mix again.
Saints might lose a few more to England again but are usually
upper mid table at best and I think they’ll regress.
Glaws will want to put everything together this year based
around that maul but might find it hard to do so given the
atrophy the cap brings when it comes to making the attack click.
They’re an outside bet to do what leicester did this year but
could finish lower mid table as well.
Chiefs have lost a lot of momentum and key men and have been
found out a bit. They are probably in for another mid table
season as they haven’t addressed anything in a major way
compared to last year.
Wasps are in for a long season, think they’ll struggle. Just
don’t see where the improvement will come from. Financial
difficulties off the field as well, apparently. Not getting good
vibes.
Bristol could break back into the top four but also finish 11th
again. Cap mistakes last year means they lost some depth and
their squad is quite top heavy, lending itself to boom and bust.
If they lose key men to injuries again, they could really
flatter to deceive.
Irish are also a curates egg. Look like mid table again to me as
nothing much has changed and they lack a top playmaker to really
kick on.
Worcester should be harder to beat under diamond but I don’t
think they’ll break the top 8.
Newcastle don’t look like they have changed too much to
challenge the better sides for the length of the season.
Bath can’t possibly be worse, but it’s a stretch to imagine
they’ll be good. I’d put them in the same category as wasps.
Sale are a dark horse to do really well. They’ve added astutely,
replaced de Klerk and de jäger with Ford and hill and had a
strong second half to last year to boot. If Ford is injured,
they could struggle to start with. I’d expect them to compete at
the top of the table rather than charge from below again,
though. And that pains me to say as their style of play is dull
and nothing about Sanderson as a DoR is appealing to anyone
outside of Manchester.
Then there’s us. Consistently good the last two years and
returning pretty much the same side. Question marks are at lock
and depth at 9. If care plays the full season and Herbst finds a
partnership with one of Hammond and Lamb, watch out! Edwards
showed he can win games and with both Allan and Smith away for
6N and the AIs this year, that’s important. I think we have the
best stable of outside backs in the league, a top 2-3 scrum and
the best half back partnership in care and smith (and good depth
at 10) which will keep us competitive. Teams did start to manage
us out of games last year (sarries and sale alike) and blunt the
attack in the red zone and it’s hard to see us overcoming that
to really consistently blow teams away although I am willing to
be surprised.
I think we will finish fourth, and after that is hard to
predict.
