Just checked, Chiliz (the token system that Socios uses) runs on
the Ethereum blockchain, meaning it uses proof of work. For
those who aren't as familiar with what this means, in practice
it means that a single transaction with this will use nearly
300kWh, which is about what the average UK household uses per
month. They haven't given any specific date for when that will
change, because they're waiting for Ethereum to update to proof
of stake - which, as far as I can tell, has been "coming soon"
for about the last 5 years.

I’ve tried to understand all the jargon and the reasons for this
NFT thingie but I still can’t fathom out why you can’t just use
the simple concept of £££ ,cash, pounds sterling money. Nearly
everybody understands that and you don’t mine for it you go to
your local bank ( those who still have one). It smells like one
of those smoke and mirrors pyramid schemes. Only the company
organising it will make any money.
If the club wants to squeeze more money out of us just give
us a nice £20 voucher to spend on Quins stuff and events and we
might think, oh, that new shirt isn’t a bad price with £20 off
so I’ll buy one.

I think the worse thing about this is they are giving all STH 1
free unit, this is a way of getting to you as you will have to
register this and then they have got their teeth into you, when
you tick the I agree to terms and conditions box I would imagine
you open yourself up to receiving all kinds of emails.

This is where I like the idea of a dedicated "disposable" email
address that can be used for signing up to stuff like this. It's
then easy to kill it.
The Apple version of a disposable email address is called "Hide
My Email". I know that there are other versions too.

The questions they never answered
1. What's in it for Socios
2. What's in it for the club
3. why is this better than a cash based system
As I see it, it'll be launched with enthusiasm, followed up with
all sorts of exciting polls and in three months time there will
just be tumbleweed rolling down the dusty empty streets.

So, each token's issue will take up 300kWh. 7,000+ STHs each
get 1 token. 300 * 7000 = 2,100,000 kWh
The average user holds 2.5 Fan Tokens. So for STHs this means
300 * 7000 * 1.5 (cos you already got 1) = 3,150,000 kWh.
But let's say 5,000 non STH fans go for it 300 * 5000 * 2.5 =
3,750,000 kWh.
So we're saying in the first season (and we're assuming no
selling of these tokens) a minimum of 9,000,000 kWh of
electricity required!!!!! (and no, I didn't fiddle the figures
to make a nice round number)
Even assuming I'm way off by a factor of 10, that's 900,000 kWh.
So just as well we have no committment to being green, isn't it?
Compare and contrast to the cost of electronic fund transfer
using something like a credit card.
Why not simply let people put cash into that nice shiny credit
card the club issued us with and then we pay £0.10 to partake in
every poll which goes to the academy and our local suppport
programmes?

personal details are being passed to Socios provided of course
you choose not to partake.

Then its all the more important to make STH aware of what this
£2 unit does if you sign up, The next thing to keep an eye on is
do you have to sign up or do you sign up to decline. Its
important its the former.
