Fair enough; but if that is the case wouldn’t it be better to go
about it like this:
• Plan to have the website up and running 25th July, with this
being confidential internal knowledge..
• Give yourselves an extra weeks levy for any unforeseen last
minute delay issues, making that the 1st of August. Again
internally confidential..
• Promote it as “Home kit reveal 1st August” to fans..
• If it’s ahead of schedule; communicate to fans a “surprise
announcement… as you’ve been such good fans etc etc, kit reveal
coming 18th July!”..
• If it’s on time for the internally confidential plan of 25th
July; again communicate to fans a “surprise announcement… fancy
wearing the new home shirt at that late July Garden BBQ? Kit
reveal coming 25 July!”…
• If it’s a week late (as which would have been initially
planned and accounted for), reveal it on the 25th July as
originally communicated to fans..
That way, atleast as a professionally run sportwear
company/professionally run rugby club look like you know what
your doing, and no matter which of the either scenarios comes to
fruition; fans are none-the wiser to the delays and club gets
less stick for it. Or is that too logical? 😆

Yes, it seems logical.
But, the club probably planned a soft go-live of the site to
happen a week ago. And it has still over run.
Basically, it doesn't seem to matter how much contingency an IT
project manager adds, it just isn't enough.

I must say I’m not great with IT, so I find this an interesting
insight. Thank you. Hopefully 25th of July we can all see it
then 🤞🏽

Basically, my opinion is:
When you develop any IT system, you find that you see a hell of
a lot of progress in the first few days. It feels like you are
90% complete. So, you slow down a bit. A few more days and you
tell the project manager that you are 95% complete.
Then you find a bug. When the project manger asks you for a
status update you say 75% complete.
When testing starts, then this number goes down and down as more
bugs are found.
Until, the project manger realises that the go live date will be
missed.
Then they decide to either:
Add more people to the project - which usually results in over
budget and late.
Or, cut functionality/scope - which then means that the system
is a bit flaky when it is released.
It is very rare that the project manger suggests slipping the go
live date. Moving the go live date means that the development
costs increase as you have to fund an extra week of developer
wages.
Modern IT systems are now so complex, that is is highly unlikely
that you won't come up against one problem that will be time
consuming to resolve.
Years ago, companies bought a server and all the system ran on
that one machine.
Now, systems run in the cloud and a simple e-store could be
running on over a dozen servers or more. Some systems are set to
dynamically resize. Eg. To add more resource when the shop is
busy (e.g. when a new shirt is launched). This can be complex
and very difficult to test.

I've decided in going to buy it, haven't seen it, but I'm going
to buy it. I'm hoping for a ott away kit that will offend many!
I loved the bar code and paint splash so.... Is going to be
great, all be it late!

There is a news story on the BBC today, only 44 out of 92
football clubs currently have both their 2022-23 season kits on
sale.
So, we may have to brace ourselves for delays.
Adidas are one of the suppliers affected - so, switching away
from them may have been a good move.

DHL Van just pulled up outside the (Home) office window...
braced myself for random Harlequin(s) to leap from the back
bearing the gift of a surprise Home Shirt... sadly it was not to
be, just the house next door and their weekly Hello Fresh
delivery ;D
