Yet Scotland are resting some of their biggest names for the
current tour - in theory so they are fresher for the World Cup.

They matter but to many not as much as the World Cup.
Like you I can only speak for myself so a bit of context. I’ve
followed England for 30+ years and am a huge advocate for the
6N.
I am too young to remember Beaumont’s slam but since then, I’ve
seen Carling, Johnson and Hartley captain teams to slams.
I can barely remember anything about any of those wins.
Yet from memory I can tell you where I was for the RWC03 final,
the date, who England’s starting XV was (and most of the subs),
the score, who scored for both teams, etc..
Or put another way, I don’t hear many welshmen celebrating their
Slam win in 2019 yet several mention knocking us out of our
World Cup.

Scotland are in dire need of finding replacements for those
names, though, especially because of how flaky they've been
recently. Also, not to put too fine a point on it, it's an
Argentina tour and of all the summer tours, it's them and Japan
that you can pick a development squad for. That is not the same
thing at all as just not caring about major tournaments except
for the biggest one.
You don't see Scotland not caring about the 6 Nations.
And, to be fair, we're not Scotland, which is kind of the point.
Scotland has a problem with player depth for obvious reasons.

I hear both, because spite drives the latter and pride drives
the former, and some people lean more in one direction than
another.
The fact is the world cup has never been won by a side that was
willing to be terrible for years before the tournament.

Joe for last week's failings. Unspeakable, Johnsonian

Marchant didn't have a poor game, and was denied only a try by a
great tackle. It feels like EJ is trying to shift the blame onto
any other player for the backs poor performance other than
Farrell. It will be interesting to see what Porter can offer
though
I was hoping Willis would get a go, but the selection I can't
get over most is Stuart. He offers nothing, literally zilch. He
can't scrum amazingly well, which when you contribute nothing in
the loose, is a bit of a problem. Heyes must be pretty bummed.
Freeman is an interesting one considering the impact Henry made,
but I can only think EJ is trying to avoid putting too much
pressure on Henry, a bit like Matthew Tait when he came on the
scene which backfired. That's fine, but we need to see more than
5 minutes of him so hoping he gets at least a full quarter in at
least.
I'm less upset about DC. We know what he can do, and he didn't
really have bad game either last week. It will be good to see
what Jack can do, as by the time the WC comes around I imagine
he will be competing with Quirke as the young pretender role.

I suspect Marchant being left out is just a consequence of the
6:2 bench split - Porter can cover 12, Marchant can't.

It's asking a lot for Porter to play 13 tbh, he's a utility back
who's played various positions. He's played 13 ten times for
Tigers in 3 years. The majority of his appearances have been on
the wing, and a bunch at 12 too.
He's a good player but he's essentially going to be asked to be
a 13 and a replacement 12 for Farrell at the same time.

We're a year out from the target Eddie says he's been working
towards for 4 years and he still seems to have no idea what his
best team is (unless it's Saracens). His team are now in
transition between two different systems and some of his
favoured players are having trouble adapting and may never make
the change.

It's a half hour watch so you'll need to allow a bit of time but
uses a lot of analysis to back up his fears (Squidge is a Wales
