       2022/23 Academy intake
   DIR By: Adrian

  HTML https://www.quins.co.uk/article/22-23-season-academy-intake-announced
Harlequins is delighted to announce the first year Academy
players set to join the senior squad ahead of the 2022/23
season, with 12 talented young Quins linking up with the senior
       squad.
Looking to follow in the footsteps of Academy graduates Marcus
Smith, Joe Marchant and Joe Marler, these players will step into
their first-year contracts, joining the full-time senior squad
       training set-up.
Head of Academy Chim Gale said: “We’re delighted to bring the
next generation of Harlequins into the senior training
environment. All 12 of these guys have been standout junior
athletes for their schools, clubs, counties, Harlequins and
international age grades and we’re excited to see them take the
       next step in their careers.
“We have seen within the senior team of late a trend of
Harlequins Academy graduates taking their opportunities with
both hands to become established Gallagher Premiership players
and in some cases internationals. Players like Marcus Smith,
Cadan Murley and Jack Kenningham are just three homegrown
success stories to serve as inspiration for these players as
they look to become established senior squad members.
“Of course, a mention must go to the huge contributions and
support these players have had from their families, schools and
clubs on their path to date. These talented young guys could not
be where they are today without their guidance and support.”

I have added them to the squad list.
But - does anyone know if Caleb Ashworth and Ethan Clarke are LH
       or TH props?

It looks as though Ethan Clarke is L/H.

Ashworth is a TH and Clarke a LH.
Overall it’s a pretty strong intake with Clarke, Browne, Carr,
Smith and Kolade being the standouts in my opinion. Not sure
Golder is tall enough to make it as a second row so It wouldn’t
surprise me to see him move to 6. Driscoll reminds me a lot of
Evans in terms of physical build and work at the breakdown.

Very good intake. Saw some of last season's U18 games and theyre
were a few standouts - Green, Browne and Kolade stuck in memory.

If the props are going to survive a season or two toughening up
in the National Leagues with only five on the bench, they need
to learn to prop both sides - though they obviously have a
preferred side. Once they reach the Championship, and of course
in the Premiership, and there are three front rowers on the
bench, they can play only their preferred side.
