This year was the best chance we’ve had of winning it since
we’ve been in it. I also think that if we’d beaten Montpellier
we had the beating of La Rochelle at home for sure. Leinster a
whole different ball game but beatable as we saw.

La Rochelle are really good. They beat Racing92 away. They beat
a full strength Montpellier (who hockeyed us). I think people
have been hoodwinked a little bit by how easy our group was, and
even then we struggled with a heavily depleted Cardiff side

Unless rugby implodes in France and Ireland, or the salary cap
rules change, there will not be an English winner for years and
it is like that they won't even make semi-finals. The squads
will not have the talent to challenge on 2 fronts.

Well, the finalists in the URC were both from South Africa, so I
would say they're not going to be pushovers!

Think that is a big question, as they will have an advantage
unless they join the 6N as their players will be international
free in the spring.

There is a huge imbalance to the competition with the addition
of the South African teams.
They are provincial teams and take their players from feeder
clubs and universities.
And - the main teams have huge catchment areas (E.g.
Johannesburg metro area population if 10.5 million) In these
areas,

The Irish teams also have the benefit of being Provincial teams
that draw their playing pool from regions (& are run with
coordination from the IRFU).

Agreed - but the population of Leinster is approximately 1/4 of
that of Gauteng (where the Lions are based.)
[Edited as my comment didn't make sense]
