England Squad For Australia Tour
DIR By: WellingQuin
Date: June 20, 2022, 3:50 am

HTML https://www.englandrugby.com/news/article/jones-names-england-squad-for-australia-tour
England will travel to Australia on Tuesday 22 June ahead of
their first game against the Wallabies in Perth on Saturday 2
July (11am BST KO).
Second Test, Brisbane, 9 July - KO 11am
Third Test, Sydney, 16 July - KO 11am
All games live on Sky Sports
Jones has selected 12 players from the weekend’s Premiership
Rugby finalists, Leicester Tigers and Saracens, including a
return for Billy Vunipola.
There are eight uncapped players: Fraser Dingwall, Tommy
Freeman, Guy Porter, Patrick Schickerling, Jack van Poortvliet
and Jack Walker, along with Henry Arundell and Will Joseph who
are named as apprentice players.
England last toured Australia in 2016 where Jones’ side won all
three Test matches with a squad which included ten current
players: Danny Care, Luke Cowan-Dickie, Owen Farrell, Ellis
Genge, Jamie George, Maro Itoje, Billy Vunipola, Mako Vunipola,
Jack Nowell and Courtney Lawes.
Jones said: “Though we have nine players unavailable due to
injury, we have picked a very strong squad capable of winning
the series. This squad is a real mix of young, talented players
and some very experienced, senior players and we’re looking
forward to bring the group together.
“This tour will be a great experience for the group and a
crucial part of the team’s work towards the Rugby World Cup in
2023. We will continue to develop the base of the squad and how
we want to play.
“We’ve put a lot of work into preparation for the tour over the
past few weeks but now the hard work really begins when we
finally get the squad on the plane and to Australia.”

I hope neither Alex nor Louis is too badly injured. Collier's
time as numbered I think from the first few minutes of the game
- dropped a pass and was part of a scrum that crumbled.
Ironically, he then played most of the game because of
Schickeling's HIA.

I think as soon as Youngs became unavailable, Danny's recall was
on the cards. You want to have at least one experienced
international #9 when touring, and he's the only real candidate.
Alex & Louis now have a chance to rehab properly ahead of next
season, assuming their injuries aren't too bad.
As I'm going to be out there at the games, I'll be cheering the
team on as loud as I can, even though I think it'll be a tough
series to win with the relative strength & experience in the two
squads.

So pleased for Danny & Jack, amazing news. I think Walker played
his way in yesterday, following up his excellent form this
season.
Collier baffles me, did nothing wrong as Rodd crumbled more
throughout the match and its hard for the tight head when the
loosey is poor, speaking from experience. Jones just being an
arse.
Still think we should feel confident against an aussie team that
although on the rise are still not a big force but those missing
for us might level it a bit.

Decent squad to take on the Aussies.
Plenty of good young players, I am especially looking forward to
seeing Chessum get some game time, he is the long term
challenger to Lawes at 6.
The squad looks strong and I can see us winning the series 2-1.
With the WC coming up, places are up for grabs.
Very happy for the Quins lads who are touring, especially Care.
Equally happy that Dommers gets a rest this summer, he has
played a lot of rugby!

15: Stewart
14: Coganasinga
13: Marchant
12: Farrell
11: May
10: Smith
9: Care
8: Billy V
7: Curry
6: Chessum or Lawes
5: Hill
4: Itojay
3: Stuart
2: Walker / George
1: Genge
With Billy back, I can see Curry getting more space. He seems to
be taking to much on without a heavyweight no 8 like Dommers or
Billy V.
Also Chessum at 6 or lock is the real deal, 6ft 8inch and
athletic. He is the long-term no 6 for me, best to give him game
time down there on the hard pitches. He should go well.
I am pretty hopeful about this tour, the Aussies are a much
better team than in 2016. But I think we should win 2-1 at the
worst. Might even stick a tenner on a 0-3, like 2016.

Agreed that Collier was treated harshly, I was very disappointed
in Bevan Rodd who I rate very highly.
Chessum I wasn't sure about when he got his first callup but
he's been immense in the last few weeks, totally get it now.
Billy in great form. Mako not so much but his workrate rarely
drops, so there's always a positive to picking him. Cokanasiga
isn't good enough IMO but I understand why he's been picked.
Pleased for Guy Porter and did wonder whether Harry Potter would
also get the nod, he's had an incredible season.
Ludlam ahead of Earl is a big call.

Great for the quins lads, it is however a double edged
sword......
Next 6 nations we could lose:
Care
Marler
Marchant
Dommers
Smith
Lynagh
Walker
Allan (Italy)
It's a lot of players to be left without, why is our team so dam
talented!!!!!!!
Plus in the event of injury Murley, Northmore & Evans could all
be in with a shout at selection.
